In this study, samples were collected from the leaves and stems of healthy wild Pistachio trees (Pistacia atlantica L.) from various locations of Baneh and Marivan regions, Iran. In total, 61 endophytic bacteria were isolated and grouped according to phenotypic properties. Ten selected isolates from each group were further identified by partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Based on the results, isolates were identified as bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, Bacillus, Pantoea and Serratia genus. The ability of these isolates was evaluated to phytohormone production such as

Tubocapsicum anomalum, a Chinese medicinal plant rich in anti-tumor withanolides, requires efficient extraction methods. In this paper, an HPLC method was first established for the detection of withanolides, and gradient elution was carried out using a methanol-water solvent system. It was found that the content of withanolides was the highest in the leaves of T. anomalum, followed by the stems and fruits, and almost none in the roots. During the actual picking process, the quantity of leaves collected was relatively small, while the number of stems was the highest. Therefore, the Box-Behnken

This study investigated the phytochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity in leaves, roots, stem, flower, and seed parts of Datura alba (D. alba). The study also assessed the heavy metal (Cr, Mn, Zn, and Cu) accumulation in each part of the plant. Among the phytochemicals, alkaloids were found only in leaves while tannins, flavonoids, and phenols were present in all parts of the plant. For antioxidant activity, free radical scavenging assay for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was performed using ascorbic acid as the standard. Higher activity was shown by stem extract in methanol

Plants exhibit striking developmental plasticity, driven by stem cell populations within meristematic tissues such as the shoot apical meristem (SAM). While the genetic networks governing stem cell homeostasis are well-characterized, recent studies reveal that the SAM also functions as an active environmental sensor to modulate growth plasticity. This Tansley review synthesizes advances in how the SAM perceives and integrates key environmental signals - including light, temperature, oxygen, and humidity - to direct adaptive growth. We detail the molecular mechanisms, such as photoreceptor-medi

Although many studies have considered the effects of temperature and water on plants, the combined effects of these factors on canola (Brassica napus) growth, physiological traits, and fatty acids require more attention. Canola is an important oilseed crop in Canada and around the world and fatty acids act as regulators of stress signaling. We grew plants under two temperature regimes (22°C/18°C and 28°C/24°C; 16 h light and 8 h dark) and two watering regimes (well-watered and water stressed) in controlled-environment growth chamber for 3 weeks after 1 week of initial growth under 22°C/18°C. BACKGROUND: Plant-derived exosomes have demonstrated clinical efficacy in hair restoration, yet the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying their effects in the human scalp remain poorly defined. This study investigates follicular proliferation, stem cell activation, and local immune modulation following intradermal injections of plant-based exosomes in adults with early-stage alopecia.
METHODS: Thirty participants received intradermal plant-derived exosome injections. Punch biopsies of 3.5 mm were collected at baseline and 6 months and processed in both vertical and horizontal orientati

Melatonin (MT) is a versatile signaling molecule involved in plant growth regulation and stress tolerance. This study examined the effects of MT at five concentrations (50, 100, 200, 300, and 400 µM) on neck bending (NB) and vase life of Gerbera jamesonii ‘Pink Elegance’ cut flowers. Morphological, physiological, biochemical, and signaling-related traits were evaluated. The results showed that MT, especially at 300 µM, effectively reduced NB, enhanced water uptake, improved antioxidant defense by increasing activities of SOD, CAT, APX, and GPX, and promoted lignin accumulation in stems. Plant height is an important agronomic characteristic that influences crop productivity and overall plant structure. Elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying stem elongation in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is essential for advancing crop improvement. In this study, we identified a semi-dwarf eggplant mutant, eggplant dwarf4 (edf4), generated through Ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis. Genetic mapping and functional analyses revealed that a point mutation in SmCycC, which encodes a homolog of Cyclin C, is responsible for the dwarf phenotype. The edf4 mutant exhibited 28.67% (p <

The uptake, translocation, and metabolization of four widely used drugs, amitriptyline, orphenadrine, lidocaine, and tramadol, were investigated in a laboratory study. Cress (Lepidium sativum L.) and pea (Pisum sativum L.) were employed as model plants. These plants were grown in tap water containing the selected pharmaceuticals at concentrations ranging from 0.010 to 10 mg L-1, whereby the latter concentration was employed for the (tentative) identification of drug-related metabolites formed within the plant. Thereby, mainly phase I metabolites were detected. Time-resolved uptake studies, wit

Papyrus (Cyperus papyrus L.) is a sedge plant with a high rate of biomass productivity that represents an interesting raw material to produce chemicals, materials and fuels, which are currently still obtained from fossil resources, in the context of a lignocellulosic biorefinery. In this work, the content and chemical composition of the lipids present in papyrus stems were thoroughly studied. For this, the papyrus stems were separated into the rind and the pith. The lipid content accounted for 4.1% in the rind and 4.9% in the pith (based on dry matter). The main compounds identified in both pa

A small bowel perforation caused by ingestion of plant stems or herbal twigs is rare, with inherent diagnostic challenges (i.e. secondary to radiological translucency and nonspecific manifestations). This is a 50 years-old male, who is edentulous and habitually drinks tea using Ocimum every evening, presented to the emergency department with lower-quadrants abdominal pain for 1 day with no prior history of an animal meat-based meal (e.g. fish, chicken). The labs revealed minimal leucocytosis, and the abdominal computed tomography showed a hyperdense linear foreign body penetrating through the …

The plant Kielmeyera rugosa Choisy (family Calophyllaceae), popularly known as 'pau-santo', is traditionally used in Brazilian folk medicine. Recently, the dichloromethane extract-dichloromethane partition from stems of K. rugosa (KR) has shown positive results in our cytotoxic screening programme. Therefore, the aim of this study was to validate the antitumour activity of KR on sarcoma 180 tumour-bearing mice. KR showed antitumour activity with both administration routes: intraperitoneal (50 and 100 mg/kg/day) and oral (100 and 200 mg/kg/day). Tumour growth inhibition rates were 40.8-34.9% an

Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are the basis of spermatogenesis, which is dependent on the ability to self-renew and differentiation. Controlling self-renewal and differentiation of SSCs could apply to treatment of disease such as male infertility. Recently, in the field of stem cell research, it was demonstrated that effective increase in stem cell activity can be achieved by using growth factors derived from plant extracts. In this study, our aim is to investigate components from natural plant to improve the self-renewal of SSCs. To find the components, germ cells were cultured with compre

Tropical wetlands contribute significantly to global carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) emissions; however, gaps exist in understanding emissions sources and drivers, especially in African peatlands. We captured plant-mediated and diffusive CH4 and CO2 emissions from monthly chamber sampling from both plants and soils in an intact Cyperus papyrus wetland in Eastern Uganda. This wetland was a strong source of atmospheric CH4 in the rainy season, with monthly plant-mediated CH4 fluxes averaging 3.6 ± 0.8 nmol CH4 stem-1 s-1 (± s.e. ), and monthly diffusive CH4 emissions averaging 918 ± 96 n

Malaria and trypanosomiasis are protozoan diseases which pose a devastating challenge to human health and productivity especially, in Africa where their respective vectors (female Anopheles mosquito and tsetse fly) abound. Various medicinal plants are used to treat these parasitic diseases. However, the scientific basis of their use and toxicological profiles have not been assessed. We have, therefore, evaluated the antiplasmodial, antitrypanosomal, and cytotoxic activities of four African medicinal plant extracts namely, Anthonotha macrophylla leaf (AML), Annickia polycarpa leaf (APLE), Tiegh

The present study illustrated that Salix alba can accumulate high level of Pb and Cd in different plant parts, with maximum accumulation in roots followed by stem and leaves in the order Cd > Pb > Cd + Pb. The phytoremediation evaluation factors such as bioconcentration factor (BCF) and translocation factor (TF) was higher for Cd over Pb in all plant parts, further the BCF for both Pb and Cd was maximum in root (BCF > 1) followed by stem and leaves. Higher accumulation of Cd over the Pb was observed inside the plant tissues due to Cd mimics with other elements and gets transported through resp
