Flexible flatfoot in childhood usually undergoes a spontaneous return to normal. However, during this process, it remains unclear whether the gait pattern will be adjusted concurrently and the mechanism of such adjustment. We investigated the mechanism underlying the change in gait patterns in children after the natural recovery of flat feet through a two-year follow-up study, from the perspectives of plantar loading and gait stability. A total of 15 flatfoot children in the recovery group and 17 typically developed children in the control group were included after extensive sample screening.

Improvement of nerve regeneration and functional recovery following nerve injury is a challenging problem in clinical research. We have already shown that following rat sciatic nerve transection, the local administration of triiodothyronine (T3) significantly increased the number and the myelination of regenerated axons. Functional recovery is a sum of the number of regenerated axons and reinnervation of denervated peripheral targets. In the present study, we investigated whether the increased number of regenerated axons by T3-treatment is linked to improved reinnervation of hind limb muscles.

Curly toe is a common congenital deformity characterized by flexion and varus deformity of the interphalangeal joints. BACKGROUND: Forced external rotation of the foot is a mechanism of ankle injuries. Clinical observations include combinations of ligament and osseous injuries, with unclear links between causation and injury patterns.
