Family physicians' perspectives on outcomes, processes, and policies in dementia care.

The rapid rise in numbers of people living with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (ADRD) poses major challenges to health systems and policy. Although primary care clinicians provide ongoing medical care for 80% of affected individuals, they face persistent barriers to providing high-quality dementia care. We conducted qualitative interviews with family physicians (n = 20) to understand what core outcomes they consider most important and what care processes and systems and policy strategies they propose to achieve them. Participants identified processes and outcomes pertaining to their

Qualitative care experiences of emerging adults with type 1 diabetes after transfer to adult care providers.

AIMS: Emerging adulthood is a developmental stage, which presents psychosocial, economic and academic challenges to individuals, which are further complicated for people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). While paediatric-based care systems have developed programmes to address the needs of young adults with T1D, adult-based systems have been slower to recognize this need. This qualitative study sought to understand the care experiences of emerging adults to identify barriers to engagement in adult-based care systems. METHODS: A total of 20 young adults with T1D (mean age 26.5 ± 4.5) participated in

S3 guideline on psychosocial therapies in severe mental illness: evidence and recommendations.

The burden of severe and persistent mental illness is high. Beside somatic treatment and psychotherapeutic interventions, treatment options for patients with severe mental illness also include psychosocial interventions. This paper summarizes the results of a number of systematic literature searches on psychosocial interventions for people with severe mental illness. Based on this evidence appraisal, recommendations for the treatment of people with severe mental illness were formulated and published in the evidence-based guideline series of the German Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and

Neurocognitive and Emotional Outcomes in Childhood Cancer: A Developmental Perspective.

BACKGROUND: Childhood cancer survivors (CCSs) are at heightened risk of long-term neurocognitive and emotional difficulties that can affect educational attainment, social participation, and overall quality of life. These outcomes vary across developmental stages and are influenced by treatment modality, age at diagnosis, and central nervous system (CNS) involvement. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, and Web of Science for articles published between January 2000 and June 2024. Search terms included combinations of "childhood cancer survivors,

Exploring the Perceived Value of Standing in Individuals with Lower Limb Impairments.

Background: Standing has medical and psychosocial benefits for people with lower limb impairments; however, systemic, logistical, and economic barriers often limit opportunities to stand in daily life. This study explored how users perceive standing and standing-assistive technologies. Methods: This study used a mixed-methods approach: in-person interviews (n = 18) and a nationwide web-based survey (n = 125; 74.4% male, mean age 52.2 ± 13.9 years, diagnoses: spinal cord injury 37.6%, cerebrovascular disease 27.2%, and cerebral palsy 16.8%). Results: Participants described the psychosocial valu

"Living Through Two Storms": A Narrative Enquiry of Older Adults' Experiences with HIV/AIDS During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Nigeria.

The COVID-19 pandemic has illuminated and intensified pre-existing structural vulnerabilities among older adults living with HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Nigeria. Within already overstretched healthcare infrastructures, these individuals faced heightened economic precarity, disrupted HIV care, and pronounced psychosocial distress. Exploring their lived experiences critically advances an understanding of resilience and informs contextually responsive interventions that can mitigate future health crises. This study employed a narrative qualitative approach to explore the lived ex

Multidisciplinary Care for Moebius Syndrome and Related Disorders: Building a Management Protocol.

Moebius syndrome is a collection of orofacial anomalies with highly variable features affecting many different systems but characterised by bilateral facial palsy and absent eye abduction. We largely regard Moebius syndrome as a diagnosis of exclusion. Lack of awareness and knowledge means that children often fall between services, leading to treatment delays and difficulty interfacing with social care and schools, with long-term impact on physical health and psychosocial development. We developed a multidisciplinary team comprising core clinicians (lead physician, geneticist, speech and langu

Patient Navigation for the Care Needs of Cancer Survivors: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Cancer care increasingly emphasizes holistic, patient-centered support across the disease trajectory; however, many health systems lack sufficient resources to address patients' physical, psychosocial, and logistical care needs, particularly in under-resourced settings. Patient navigation, delivered by trained non-clinician, peer, or community-based navigators, has demonstrated effectiveness in improving cancer screening and treatment initiation, yet its role in addressing the ongoing health and related care needs of people living with cancer remains less well characterized. Financial Toxicity Associated with Biological Medicines: A Scoping Review.

Financial toxicity, defined as the economic burden experienced by patients due to medication and other healthcare costs and their consequences, such as material, psychosocial and behavioral effects, represents a significant concern for individuals receiving biological medicines. This scoping review synthesizes current evidence on financial toxicity connected to biological therapies and proposes policy interventions to mitigate its impact, while identifying key research gaps. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across databases Scopus, Medline, Web of Science, CINAHL, and EMB Review

Indigenous oral traditions and psychological well-being under modernization: from external valuation to relational selfhood.

Across many Indigenous communities, modernization, urbanization, market integration, formal schooling, language shift, and cultural commodification have reshaped the conditions under which psychological well-being is understood and sustained. These pressures influence how Indigenous identities, languages, knowledges, and cultural practices are valued within dominant social, educational, economic, and clinical frameworks. This article conceptualizes Indigenous oral traditions as living psychosocial knowledge embedded in community-held epistemic and relational infrastructures and examines their

Personal, Psychosocial and Environmental Factors Related to Sick Building Syndrome in Official Employees of Taiwan.

Sick building syndrome (SBS) is a combination of symptoms that can be attributed to exposure to specific building conditions. The present study recruited 389 participants aged 20-65 years from 87 offices of 16 institutions to examine if personal factors, work-related psychosocial stress, and work environments, were associated with five groups of SBS symptoms, including symptoms for eyes, upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract, skin, and non-specific systems. Indoor environmental conditions were monitored. Data were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression (MLR) analyses and we

Medication Treatments for Youth and Young Adults With Opioid Use Disorder.

Opioid use disorder (OUD) and overdose deaths are increasingly prevalent among youth and young adults; however, the evidence-based medication-assisted treatments (MATs) that have U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for the treatment of adults are not approved for persons aged 16 to 18 years. New guidelines from the American Society of Addiction Medicine provide information on the risks and benefits of MAT with youth and young adults that help guide decision making. Clinical decisions require a thorough physical and psychiatric evaluation, risk/benefit analysis in treatment planning, and

Neuromodulatory strategies overcome multiple inevitable impairments of cerebral palsy.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is traditionally characterized as a disorder of motor impairment; however, growing evidence suggests it reflects broader dysregulation across multiple physiological systems. We present a longitudinal case study examining whether pairing transcutaneous spinal neuromodulation (TSN) with a proprioceptive-derived intervention (PDI) can engage systems-level functional adaptation in an adolescent with CP spastic diplegia, whose progress had plateaued after years of conventional therapy. Across 2 years of the intervention, structured clinical observations revealed progressive and

Considerations in designing trauma-focused interventions for displaced Afghan women.

In light of the 2021 United States military withdrawal from Afghanistan, as well as the humanitarian crises of mass displacement and subsequent health system strain that have ensued, practitioners worldwide will need to develop a more nuanced understanding of the adverse life experiences that women from Afghanistan frequently endorse. As they bear a disproportionate impact of constraints within Afghan society, and as patriarchal systems affect most of their life domains, women from Afghanistan may present with high levels of baseline trauma upon resettlement, and health systems may seek to att

Exploring primary care doctors' perceptions on their roles in palliative care in Singapore: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Singapore faces a rapidly aging population with increasing multimorbidity, creating an urgent need for expanded palliative care services. Despite primary care physicians (PCPs) being ideally positioned to provide palliative care throughout patients’ disease trajectories, their role remains underdeveloped in Singapore’s healthcare system. This study aimed to explore PCPs’ perceptions of their roles in providing palliative care to patients with life-limiting illnesses in Singapore’s primary care setting. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study at two SingHealth Polyclinics with dis
