The use of amorphous calcium phosphate composites as bioactive basing materials: their effect on the strength of the composite/adhesive/dentin bond.

BACKGROUND: Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) composites release calcium and phosphate ions in aqueous environments, which may lead to deposition of apatitic mineral in tooth structure. The authors evaluate the strength of the composite/adhesive/dentin bond shear bond strength (SBS) for ACP basing-composites after various periods of water aging. METHODS: The authors made the experimental composites by using two resin matrices with various ACPs or a commercial strontium ion-leachable glass. They applied successive coats of a dentin adhesive and basing composite to an acid-etched dentin surface

Fiber reinforced composite resin systems.

The Targis/Vectris and Sculpture/FibreKor systems were devised to create a translucent maximally reinforced resin framework for fabrication of crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays. These materials are esthetic, have translucency similar to castable glass-ceramics such as OPC and Empress, and have fits that are reported to be acceptable in clinical and laboratory trials. These restorations rely on proper bonding to the remaining tooth structure; therefore, careful attention to detail must be paid to this part of the procedure. Cementation procedures should involve silane treatment of the cleaned

Comparison of shear bond strength of different types of intracanal posts in restoring extensively damaged primary anterior teeth.

BACKGROUND: Severe caries in early childhood is a concern for both children receiving dental treatment and their parents. This dental disease progresses rapidly and quickly damages the coronal part of the tooth. When there is insufficient coronal structure to support a coronal restoration, using intracanal components following root canal treatment increases tooth resistance and helps provide retention for the coronal restoration. This study compared the shear bond strength of three types of intracanal posts (composite resin post, reverse metal post, and fiber post) in severely damaged primary
