Pitch-Tracking Risk Factors and Warning Signs for Shoulder Capsulolabral Injuries in Major League Baseball Pitchers.

BACKGROUND: Shoulder capsulolabral injuries are a major source of disability in Major League Baseball (MLB) pitchers. The introduction of Statcast pitch tracking now enables population-level analysis of shoulder injury mechanisms. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to identify preinjury kinematic risk factors for arthroscopic capsulolabral repair. It was hypothesized that pitchers who sustain capsulolabral injuries show preinjury kinematic deviations detectable on Statcast data. STUDY DESIGN: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: MLB pitchers undergoing primary c

Open Approach for Simultaneous Bankart and Pectoralis Major Repair for Concurrent Shoulder Injuries: A Case Report.

CASE: We present the case of a 33-year-old man with a history of recurrent shoulder instability who sustained an injury during a mountain biking incident. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed a Bankart lesion with a Hill-Sachs defect and a pectoralis major tear of the left shoulder. The patient underwent successful open Bankart repair with pectoralis major repair. At 1-year follow-up, he had regained full range of motion and reported excellent functional recovery. CONCLUSION: This case highlights the simultaneous occurrence of a Bankart lesion and pectoralis major tear and supports an open re

Clinical efficacy of different shoulder joint drug injections for rotator cuff injuries: A network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff injury is a common clinical disorder of the musculoskeletal system. It is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain and shoulder joint dysfunction. Intra-articular injection therapy is one of the common conservative treatments for rotator cuff injury in clinical practice, but scholars have been controversial about the different drugs used for injection therapy and their clinical effectiveness, and there is no complete agreement on the choice of different injectables, and the existing original studies are mostly direct comparisons in 1 arm, lacking indirect compari

A Meta-Analysis of CT as a Tool for Diagnosing and Treating Shoulder Joint Bankart Injuries.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

OBJECTIVE: The shoulder joint is the most flexible joint in the human body. It is a typical multiaxial ball-and-socket joint. The humeral head is approximately spherical, and the glenoid is small and shallow. This article mainly discusses the application value of computerized tomography (CT) in the early diagnosis of skeletal Bankart injury of the shoulder joint. METHODS: The chemical quality was evaluated according to the physical therapy evidence database PEDro scale. The literature quality evaluation scale and the NO scale are also used to evaluate the quality of each nonrandomized study.

Progressive resistance strength training and the related injuries in older adults: the susceptibility of the shoulder.

The benefits of progressive resistance training (PRT) among the older adults are evident, especially in the prevention of sarcopenia and improving muscle strength, which reverse the age-related loss of functional ability. However, PRT carries some risk, particularly when participants are older adults with a certain degree of muscle weakness. The purpose of this article is to discuss the PRT-related injuries, and present an overview of documented shoulder injuries among the elderly, discerning possible mechanisms of injury and risk factors. A literature search was conducted in the PUBMED databa…

[Evaluation of a simple test for shoulder function in patients with surgically treated rotator cuff injuries].

INTRODUCTION: To assess overall shoulder function a simple examination of the range of motion and strength may not be sufficiently representative. because the shoulder in its daily use is often required for repetitive activities, fatigue at an early stage could be a sign of disturbed shoulder function. Therefore the shoulder function test (SFT) was created to incorporate the factor time into shoulder assessment. With this study the SFT was evaluated for its clinical use in the prospective follow-up of a series of patients operated on for rotator cuff tears. METHODS: Using forward flexion, the

Peripheral nerve entrapment, occupation-related syndromes, sports injuries, bursitis, and soft-tissue problems of the shoulder.

In this review, three areas are highlighted: knee injuries due to athletic events, carpal tunnel syndrome, and shoulder problems, especially glenoid labral tears. In patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament insufficiency, an increasing incidence of meniscal tears was seen. A Finnish study showed that athletes from all types of competitive sports are at a slightly increased risk of requiring hospital care because of osteoarthritis of the hip, knee, or ankle. A number of studies on the electrodiagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome were published, and some of these are reviewed. The shoulder

[Fractures of the scapula and injuries of the acromioclavicular joint. The traumatized shoulder and its sequelae].

Fractures of the scapula are rare and mainly result from a severe direct trauma. Most fractures may be treated non-operatively, only severely displaced and unstable fractures of the neck and/or the clavicula, unstable intraarticular fractures of the glenoid or open fractures (especially in combination with neurovascular lesions) should be fixed operatively. A dislocated fracture of the clavicula or glenoid should be approached first ventrally. Displaced fractures of the neck and body may also require an open reduction and fixation through a dorsal approach. Careful preoperative planning and an

Association Between Eccentric and Isometric Shoulder Rotation Strength, Shoulder Range of Motion and Injury Incidence in the Shoulder in Adolescent Competitive Tennis Players: The SMASH Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: For competitive adolescent athletes, injury avoidance is a challenge, and causes of injury are complex and multifactorial. Despite an incidence of 8.2 shoulder injuries per 1,000 hours of tennis played, few studies have investigated the association between shoulder strength, range of motion (ROM), and injury. HYPOTHESIS: Eccentric and isometric shoulder muscle strength and/or shoulder ROM are associated with new shoulder complaints and/or injuries. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 3. METHODS: At baseline 301 adolescent competitive tennis players aged 13 to 1…

Injury to the axillary artery and brachial plexus caused by a closed floating shoulder injury: A case report.

BACKGROUND: A floating shoulder may be associated with catastrophic neurovascular injury and requires a multidisciplinary approach for its management. To maximize the likelihood of good patient outcomes, this unique injury pattern should be recognized in patients as early as possible. This can be difficult to achieve, however, as there are currently few reports of floating shoulder in the literature, meaning that associated neurovascular injuries may be overlooked. CASE SUMMARY: We present here a rare case of floating shoulder with axillary artery injury in a 34-year-old woman. The patient co

The impact of pre-existing shoulder diseases and traumatic injuries of the shoulder on adhesive capsulitis in adult population: A population-based nested case-control study.

Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a common chronic disorder for adult patients; however, whether a history of pre-existing shoulder diseases may affect the development of AC is still not fully understood. We aimed to investigate the incidence and prevalence of AC and to assess the association of pre-existing shoulder diseases and traumatic injuries of the shoulder with the development of AC in adults. This retrospective population-based cohort and nested case-control study used data from the National Health Institute Research Database of Taiwan. A total of 24,414 patients aged 20 years or older and w
