Coat colour is one of the most important economic traits of sheep and is mainly used for breed identification and characterization. This trait is determined by the biochemical function, availability and distribution of phaeomelanin and eumelanin pigments. In our study, we conducted a genome-wide association study to identify candidate genes and genetic variants associated with coat colour in 75 Chinese Tan sheep using the ovine 600K SNP BeadChip. Experiments are described in which tanned red cells coated with a globulin fraction of human serum with a high titre of antibody to human thyroglobulin were agglutinated by saline extracts of human thyroid gland and thyroglobulin but not by other tissue extracts. It is suggested that the linkage is due to a specific antigen antibody reaction between cell-bound antithyroid antibody and thyroglobulin in solution.

PURPOSE: To investigate the association between outdoor time and the risk of cataract surgery in a large Australian population.
METHODS: This was a population-based prospective cohort study with 137,133 participants 45 to 65 years of age and without prior history of cataract surgery from the 45 and Up Study. Outdoor hours per day on weekdays and weekends, as well as tanning with repeated sun exposure, were assessed by a self-administered baseline questionnaire. Cataract surgery events were confirmed by the Medicare Benefits Schedule from baseline until the end of follow-up in 2016.

It has been suggested that the majority of all skin cancers could be prevented by changes related to sun-tanning behaviour. This study explores the sun-tanning behaviour of the Norwegian population using a modified Health Belief Model (HBM).
