Effectiveness of text message-delivered health behaviour intervention on HbA1c change in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of text message-delivered health behaviours intervention on HbA1c change among adults with T2DM, and to identify key moderators including intervention features, message characteristics, target behaviours, and the usage of behaviour change techniques (BCTs). We systematically reviewed 37 randomised controlled trials published between 2016 and 2025, involving 8,971 participants. Changes in HbA1c and health behaviours were analysed using the standardised mean difference. The meta-analysis revealed a significant reduction in HbA1c (g = -0.32, 95% CI

The viability of utilising phone-based text messages in data capture and reporting morbidities due to lymphatic Filariasis by community health workers: a qualitative study in Kilwa district, Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Globally, there is recognition of the value of using mobile phones among health providers in improving health systems performance. However, in many Low- and Middle-income countries where there is shortage of health providers, Community Health Workers have assumed some responsibilities especially relating to identifying and reporting on health problems within their communities. Despite the known benefits of using mobile phone technology to deliver health services, there is limited information on the extent to which Community Health Workers are able to effectively use the technology

A randomized controlled, trial on effects of mobile phone text messaging in combination with motivational interviewing versus standard infant feeding counselling on breastfeeding and child health outcomes, among women living with HIV.

BACKGROUND: Despite efforts to promote optimal breastfeeding practices, the practice of exclusive breastfeeding is low in South Africa. We conducted a trial to determine whether text messaging plus motivational interviewing prolonged exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life and improved child health outcomes. METHODS: We conducted a randomized parallel group-controlled trial between July 2022 and May 2024, at a secondary-level healthcare facility. Mothers living with HIV, 18 years or older, initiating breastfeeding, on combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) and their inf…

[Effectiveness of Mobile Apps and Text Messaging as an E-mental Health Intervention for the Three Most Common Operational Stress Injuries among Public Safety Personnel: A Review of Meta-Analyses and Systematic Reviews].

Context The frequency of probable mental health diagnoses is much higher among public safety personnel (PSP) than in the general population, which can be explained in part by their operational duties. The most common operational stress injuries (OSI) among PSP in Canada are depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Because of their confidential and accessible nature, e-mental health interventions delivered via smartphones (mobile interventions) have great potential among PSP. The Mental Health Commission of Canada has proposed evaluative criteria for a compre

Evaluating the efficacy of an SMS text message information and support programme for people who have experienced a motor vehicle-related injury: protocol for a double-blind randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Road traffic injuries can be physically and emotionally challenging, and navigating compensation processes may increase uncertainty and distress. Early high distress is linked with poorer long-term recovery, including persistent pain and delayed return to work. Digital health tools, particularly brief, scalable SMS programmes, may offer timely information and emotional support during recovery. This protocol outlines a double-blind randomised controlled trial evaluating the efficacy, feasibility and acceptability of an SMS-delivered health information and support programme for peo

Assessment of the Reach, Usability, and Perceived Impact of "Talking Is Power": A Parental Sexual Health Text-Messaging Service and Web-Based Resource to Empower Sensitive Conversations with American Indian and Alaska Native Teens.

BACKGROUND: Early sexual debut among American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) adolescents has been associated with an increased risk of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, along with an increased risk of having multiple lifetime sexual partners, and engaging in greater frequency of sex, substance abuse, and lack of condom use. A major protective factor against early sexual debut among AI/AN youth is the familial system. Interventions aiming to improve parent-child communication and parental warmth toward adolescent sexual health topics were reported to contribute to posit

Improving adherence in mental health service users with severe mental illness in South Africa: a pilot randomized controlled trial of a treatment partner and text message intervention vs. treatment as usual.

OBJECTIVES: Medication non-adherence is a significant problem in treatment of severe mental disorders and is associated with poor clinical outcomes and increased demand on services. Task-shifting interventions incorporating mobile health may improve adherence in mental health service users in low- and middle-income countries. Seventy-seven participants were recruited from a psychiatric hospital in Cape Town, with 42 randomized to receive the intervention and 35 to treatment as usual. Intervention pairs underwent treatment-partner contracting and psychoeducation, and received monthly text messa

Shop-to-Stop Hypertension: A multicenter cluster-randomized controlled trial protocol to improve screening and text message follow-up of adults with high blood pressure at health kiosks in hardware retail stores.

High blood pressure (BP) is the leading preventable risk factor for death, but only one in three patients achieve target BP control. A key contributor to this problem is poor population awareness of high BP, as the majority of patients are asymptomatic. The Shop-To-Stop Hypertension study is a multicenter, cluster-randomized controlled trial to identify, refer and follow adults in need of hypertension care, whilst raising population-wide awareness. In participants with high BP measured by SiSU Health Stations located in major hardware chain stores across New South Wales, Australia, we will det
