Monoalkyltrialkynyl- and dialkyldialkynyltin compounds can be selectively synthesized by transmetalation of tetraalkynyltin compounds with Grignard reagents; an example is given in Equation (1). This reaction provides a route to mono- and dialkyltin compounds that avoids the use of strongly electrophilic reagents. The labile tin-alkynyl bonds allow the transmetalation products to be converted into alkyltin oxides, chlorides, and alkoxides.

During a recent investigation of the organotin-contaminated lard samples, a simple method was developed by direct Grignard pentylation of lard samples and capillary gas chromatography with flame photometric detection using quartz surface-induced tin emission. This paper describes the effect of inorganic tin chloride on the separation of trimethyl-, tributyl- and triphenyltin-chlorides by reversed-phase ion-pair high-performance liquid chromatography with detection by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The reaction of a metastable SnCl solution with KR (R = Si(SiMe3)2(SitBuMe2) = HyptBuMe2 or Si(SiMe3)2(SiEt3) = HypEt3) gives the metalloid tin cluster [Sn10R4]2- in partly good yields. Tin-mesoporphyrin (tin-mp), a potent inhibitor of heme oxygenase, and manganese (III) tetrakis(1-methyl-4-pyridyl)porphyrin (MnTMPyP), a potent superoxide dismutase mimetic, reduced H2O2 toxicity in cultures of transformed rat astroglial cells if added 30 min before, or at the same time as, H2O2. Reduced toxicity was not observed if treatment was delayed for 60 min, the time by which H2O2 was essentially eliminated from cultures. In this work, two tin(II)-based sulfates, Sn2OSO4 and Sn3O2(OH)(HSO4), were synthesized via the mild hydrothermal method. Both compounds employ the Sn2+ cation with stereochemically active lone pair (SCALP) electrons and non-π-conjugated tetrahedral anionic groups SO4 as the functional structural blocks. We propose an Au-free Ti/Al/TiN Ohmic contact on an n-type Al0.57Ga0.43N epitaxial layer and utilize it in deep-ultraviolet light-emitting diodes with improved efficiency. The surface morphology, chemical stoichiometry, and electrical performance of the proposed contact are thoroughly investigated and compared with those of conventional Ti/Al/Ni/Au electrodes. Tin compounds are being used increasingly in the home, in industry and in medicine. There have been relatively few studies on the long term biological effects of this metal, although acute effects have been documented. In this report we describe experiments which show that tin(II), as stannous chloride, is readily taken up by human white blood cells (WBC) and can cause damage to DNA.
