BACKGROUND: This study aims to assess vitamin A and E concentrations in the premature colostrum of lactating Tunisian women and to identify maternal characteristics that may affect these concentrations.

BACKGROUND: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic debilitating disease and a well-recognized, potentially malignant condition of the oral cavity associated with betel quid chewing. Betel quid chewing is a popular oral habit in India and shows strong association in the incidence of OSMF. BACKGROUND: Studies of the use of pentoxifylline and α-tocopherol in osteoradionecrosis of the jaw have suggested their efficacy in this condition. We report an initial case series of pentoxifylline and α-tocopherol for patients with bisphosphonate-associated osteonecrosis (BON).
METHODS: Six cases referred for management of BON were provided pentoxifylline and α-tocopherol in addition to antimicrobial therapy, and followed for a mean of 10 months.
RESULTS: A 74% decrease in area of bony exposure and symptom control was achieved in these cases.

Serum alpha-tocopherol, retinol, and malondialdehyde concentrations were measured at 7(th) month of pregnancy in 122 women from low socio-economic background. Maternal anthropometric measurements, 24-hour nutrient intakes, and pregnancy outcome were recorded. One-third (34.3 %) of mothers had low birth weight babies and 10 % delivered preterm. We analyze the effect of the combination of acetylsalicylic acid (2 mg/kg/day p.o.) and alpha-tocopherol (25 mg/kg/day p.o.) in a type-1-like experimental model of diabetes mellitus on platelet factors, endothelial antithrombotic factors and tissue oxidative stress. INTRODUCTION: Low plasma vitamin E level in children with sickle cell anaemia has been related to elevated level of irreversibly sickled cells which has been implicated in the pathogenesis of painful crisis. In adult patients supplementation with alpha-tocopherol has been shown to reduce irreversibly sickled cell count.
