The coexistence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and Hodgkin disease (HD) in the same patient, although previously reported, is very unusual. This situation is extremely rare when the first diagnosis is a cutaneous B NHL, and exceptional if there is no personal background of cytostatic treatment. We report a 44-year-old man who developed cutaneous nodules over a period of two years. A marginal zone cutaneous B-cell lymphoma was diagnosed. On staging investigation a mass in the lingual tonsil was found and excision biopsy showed a classical Hodgkin lymphoma.

OBJECTIVE: We report a series of patients treated for carcinoma of the tonsil who either presented with bilateral carcinomas or later developed a second primary carcinoma of the contralateral tonsil. This report raises awareness of this occurrence.

Forty-five patients with stage IE and IIE malignant lymphoma originating from the oral cavity (23 cases) and Waldeyer's ring (22 cases) were histopathologically studied and their prognoses were assessed. Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas of the head and neck with a non-lymph node primary site represent the second commonest cause of oropharyngeal tumour, after carcinomas (5). The location in the Waldeyer's ring is classical, most frequently involving the palatine tonsil. The authors report a case of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma arising in the vestigial lymphoid tissue of the subtonsillar region. They raise the problem of the differential diagnosis, despite the contribution of CT scan.
