Number of bone marrow transplantations increases rapidly during last years. Our work presents the immunogenetics and organisation rules of unrelated bone marrow donor selection for Polish patients. Actual possibilities of the transplantation of matched unrelated bone marrow donor in Poland are also presented.

Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) offers potentially curable treatment for patients with high-risk hematologic malignancies. However, relapse remains the major cause for failure of autologous BMT in these diseases and of allogeneic BMT in subsets of patients with these diseases. We investigated the present condition of lung transplant candidates and the familiarity of doctors in eastern Japan by questionnaire. We shipped questionnaires to 614 hospitals in the Hokkaido district, the Tohoku district, the Kanto district and Niigata Prefecture, a received responses from 216 departments (200 hospitals). Oral health was studied in 49 children below 12 years of age treated with bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Dental treatment prior to BMT was required in 41% of the children. Ulceration of the mucous membranes in the mouth was observed in 37% of the patients during treatment.
