The poly-morbidity is an actual problem of clinical medicine. The chronic hepatitis and tuberculosis are among widespread socially significant diseases while their relationship needs further investigation. The purpose of study is to analyze rate of occurrence, structure and clinic а chronic hepatitis taking course in comorbidity with tuberculosis of various localizations. The technique of continuous sampling was applied to carry out cohort randomized single-staged study analyzing rate structure and clinic of chronic hepatitis in 1189 patients with tuberculosis including pulmonary (n=1125), ext

A 77-year-old woman with a productive cough and fever was admitted to the hospital. Pulmonary and endobronchial tuberculosis, pneumonia of the left upper lobe, and stenosis of the left main bronchus were diagnosed. She was given the antimycobacterial drugs isoniazid, rifampin, and streptomycin, and her condition improved. Two months later, bronchoscopy revealed semilunar-shaped stenosis of the left main bronchus, and auscultation revealed wheezing in the middle-end expiratory phase. A continuous flow murmur (Levine III) was also heard at the left anterior chest wall. Cardiac catheterization wi

A 30-year-old man with a 5-month history of lumbar pain was hospitalized due to worsening pain and restricted mobility. CT and MRI scans indicated multiple vertebral destructions, prompting further assessment with 18 F-FDG PET/CT. PET/CT imaging showed widespread and avid 18 F-FDG uptake in the bones, mainly in the vertebrae. No other suspicious lesions were detected. Pathology subsequently confirmed the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis . This case illustrates 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging of osseous tuberculosis, characterized by widespread 18 F-FDG accumulation without pulmonary tuberculosis

Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) undergoing anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) treatment were previously reported to present gut bacterial microbiota dysbiosis, but the role of the mycobiota has not been reported. Here, we conducted a follow-up study of 29 naive TB patients who received first-line anti-TB drug treatment; we collected their fecal samples at different time points, as well as 22 fecal samples from healthy subjects. Fungal ITS2 and bacterial 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing were used to analyze the effects of active TB and anti-TB treatment on the gut microbiota. We found that naive

Tuberculosis cutis orificialis is a rare manifestation of cutaneous tuberculosis which occurs in the oral, perianal and adjacent mucosa. The most frequent orificial lesion location is the tongue. We report a case of a 35-year-old female with tuberculosis cutis orificialis with gingival involvement. She had a six-month history of a moderately painful gingival ulceration. Histopathological examination showed granulomatous infiltrates composed of epithelioid cells, Langhans giant cells and caseating necrosis. A purified protein derivative test was positive. Sputum culture was positive for Mycobac

INTRODUCTION: Both pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and sarcoidosis (SA) are chronic, systemic, granulomatous diseases. Due to their similar clinical and radiological features, as well as similar pathological characteristics, it is difficult to distinguish. This study aims to explore the pathological correlation between PTB and SA and the impact of nodules formation on the occurrence of PTB.
METHODS: We retrospective enrolled 307 patients admitted to the tuberculosis department between January 2022 and March 2024. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 170 patients were divided into

OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to determine the rate of hookworm infection among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and to find out if there is a relation between hookworm infection and the therapeutic failure of pulmonary TB.
METHODS: We carried out a prospective, hospital-based study. The study included 231 naïve patients with pulmonary TB, consecutively. Patients were evaluated at the 4th month of therapy for persistence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. All patients had clinical evaluation, laboratory investigations (including sputum culture and stool microsc

This editorial article takes an opportunity to apprehend the diagnostic challenges of primary gastrointestinal tuberculosis (an uncommon extrapulmonary tuberculosis condition) utilizing the recently published case report of a young male with prolonged gastrointestinal symptoms and weight loss who received intermittent anti-tubercular treatment and underwent operative interventions to relieve gastric outlet obstruction. The diagnosis chiefly relied on high-end examinations, like computed tomography scans and histopathological evaluation of post-operatively resected bowel tissue, which wasn't pr

Tuberculosis (TB) is a common condition with increasing incidence worldwide. Cutaneous TB represents a small portion of extrapulmonary TB. Health care professionals must be aware of cutaneous forms of TB to avoid delay in diagnosis and treatment. We present a case of a 59-year-old woman with vulvar TB cutis orificialis in association with pulmonary TB without any other involvement of genitourinary system. We discuss epidemiological aspects, classification, treatment, range of histopathological patterns, and use of ancillary techniques for diagnosis.

Surgery for drug-resistant tuberculosis has been shown to be safe and effective, with similar level of mortalities associated with surgical intervention observed with that for lung cancer. While surgery has been an option to treat TB in the pre-antibiotic era, it is now increasingly used to treat complications of pulmonary TB, particularly in patients with drug-resistant TB who do not respond to medical treatment. The two most frequent indications for lung resection in drug- resistant TB, are i) failed medical treatment with persistent sputum positivity or ii) patients who have had medical tre
