IUCD as bladder stone.

Intrauterine Contraceptive Devices (IUCDs) are commonly used in low to middle-income countries. IUCD migration into the adjacent organs, especially bladder, is exceptionally rare, though important to exclude. A 55-year-old para three post-menopausal female with history of recurrent urinary tract infections presented with lower urinary tract symptoms. Urine examination was indicative of Eschericia coli infection. Pelvic radiograph revealed an intravesical calculus having a T-shaped extension. Cystoscopy confirmed a bladder stone encasing an encrusted IUCD. Cystolithotripsy was performed, fragme

Intrauterine device (IUD) migration completely into the abdominal cavity and half into the bladder to form a stone: a case report and mini-review.

The intrauterine device (IUD) is an important and highly effective means of contraception. Migration of the IUD, post implantation, out of the uterus is an infrequent complication, and its subsequent migration into the urinary bladder with formation of secondary bladder calculi, is even more infrequently reported. The authors report a 51 year old woman who had had her last child delivered via cesarean section 16 years ago. She underwent an IUD insertion in the next few months but was subsequently lost to follow up. Before detection of the ectopic state of the IUD she complained of dysuria and

Comparison of three techniques in bladder stone surgery: Which technique is more effective and safe?

BACKGROUND: In our study, we aimed to compare the success and complication rates of percutaneous cystolithotripsy (PCCL), transurethral cystolithotripsy (TUCL), and Ho: YAG laser lithotripsy in the surgery of bladder stones that occurred due to various reasons. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients diagnosed with single or multiple bladder stones with long axis larger than 2 cm, resulting for various reasons, were included in ou study. Sizes of the stones, cystolithotripsy and discharge times, catheter removal times, complications observed, and the visual pain scale (VPS) were retrospectively evalua

[Prolonged exposure to intravesical foreign body induces a giant calculus with attendant renal dysfunction].

A 31-year-old man came to our hospital complaining of severe voiding pain. He had inserted a fishing line made of nylon into his urethra at the age of eighteen, which was unable to be taken out and had been left there for 13 years. Preoperative ultrasonogram showed severe bilateral hydronephrosis and the serum BUN and creatinine level were as high as 45.2 mg/dl and 4.8 mg/dl, respectively. A huge bladder stone was demonstrated in X-ray film, the patient was admitted and vesicolithotomy was performed. The size of the stone was 10.5 x 7.5 x 7.5 cm and the weight was 360 grams. The fishing line w

Urinary cystic calculi in a cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis): a case report.

An adult female Macaca fascicularis monkey became acutely anorexic and depressed and was found dead approximately 24 hours later. Necropsy revealed three hard brownish-yellow stones within the urinary bladder and urethra, a moderately shrunken left kidney, hemorrhage of the medulla of the left adrenal gland and a yellow liver. The stones, one of which was lodged in the urethra, were 1-2.5 cm in diameter, and their surfaces were rough and covered with spines. Chemical analysis of the stones revealed oxalates, phosphates, carbonates, ammonium salts, magnesium and calcium. Microscopic examination

From black urine to bladder obstruction: multidisciplinary management of extensive stone formation in alkaptonuria.

Alkaptonuria, although rare, can lead to severe multisystemic manifestations, including progressive ochronosis and extensive urological complications. This case highlights an unusually diffuse stone burden involving the entire urinary tract, emphasising the importance of early recognition of classic signs such as dark urine and joint stiffness. Timely biochemical confirmation and imaging can aid in the appropriate diagnosis. Management requires a multidisciplinary approach encompassing metabolic control, surgical intervention and long-term follow-up. Greater awareness of this condition among c

Vesicocutaneous fistula at site of closed suprapubic tube tract as the first presenting sign of giant bladder stone.

Bladder stones represent approximately 5% of all cases of urolithiasis and are typically identified and managed long before causing irreversible renal injury. We present a case of a man in his 40s with a prior history of a gunshot wound to the abdomen who presented with leakage from a previously healed suprapubic tube tract and was found to have a giant bladder stone with a resulting renal injury. He subsequently underwent a combined open cystolithotomy and vesicocutaneous fistulotomy during his hospitalisation, which helped to improve his renal function. In addition to there being few reporte

Ureterocele with embedded stone suggesting a diagnosis of bladder tumor: beware of the diagnostic trap! (case report and literature review).

Ureterocele is a congenital urinary malformation resulting in pseudo-cystic dilation of the terminal ureter under the mucosa. We present the case of a 47-year-old patient who presents with irritative symptoms of the lower urinary tract with hematuria. Initial imaging suggested a bladder tumor with a bladder stone, before correcting the diagnosis of ureterocele with embedded stone by cystoscopy. Treatment included endoscopic ureterocelotomy with laser stone fragmentation.

Bladder wall adhesion causing a vesicular septum in a dog following surgical cystotomy.

CASE DESCRIPTION: An 8-year-old spayed female Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle dog was evaluated for persistent pollakiuria and stranguria following routine cystotomy for calcium oxalate cystoliths. CLINICAL FINDINGS: The dog presented for a cystotomy with intermittent hematuria. Postoperative radiographs revealed no remaining cystoliths. Urine, cystolith, and bladder mucosal aerobic cultures were negative. Pollakiuria, stranguria, and hematuria developed immediately after surgery and persisted despite antibiotics. Ultrasound revealed suspected fibrous adhesions within the urinary bladder lumen conne

A rare Foreign Body in the bladder: a surgical dressing as a bladder stone.

We report an unusual case of a foreign body removed from the urinary bladder of an 11-year-old boy, which had mimicked a recurrent bladder stone. The diagnosis was suspected by ultrasound. As the clinical presentation appeared typical, no other examination was performed. Open surgery revealed that this foreign body was a surgical dressing forgotten during the first surgery eight years earlier. The absence of clinical evidence or infectious complications related to this foreign body over such a long period was surprising.

Perforation of urinary bladder by intrauterine device.

Perforation of the uterus by an intrauterine device (IUD) is not an uncommon complication of this means of birth control. Comparatively, however, perforation of the bladder is uncommon, having been reported only seven times previously in the literature. This additional case is presented with review of the current literature and discussion of uterine and bladder perforation by an IUD.
