PURPOSE: Hydralazine, doxazosin, and verapamil are currently recommended by the Endocrine Society as acceptable bridging treatment in those in whom full cessation of antihypertensive medication is infeasible during screening for primary aldosteronism (PA). Heart rate variability on 24-hour electrocardiographic recording was assessed in 23 patients without structural heart disease before and after 2 months of oral treatment with verapamil prescribed for paroxysmal atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia. Verapamil had no significant effect on overall heart rate variability in the frequency domain, but it increased ultra low frequency power and decreased the low-frequency/high-frequency ratio, deemed to be a marker of sympathetic activity.

AIMS: There are multiple drugs options in the treatment of Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia (PST) after inefficacious vagal stimulus. In this study we compare two of these treatments: verapamil versus adenosin triphosphate (ATP).

The enhancement of the mutagenicity of anticancer drugs by the calcium antagonists verapamil (CAS 52-53-9) and fendiline (CAS 13042-18-7) is reviewed. Both calcium antagonists enhance synergistically the induction of chromosome aberrations (dicentric and ring chromosomes) in cultured human lymphocytes by the antitumor agent bleomycin.
