Sixteen halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons were assayed for genotoxicity using the Ara mutagenicity assay with Salmonella typhimurium. Eight chlorinated ethanes and 3 chlorinated ethylenes were tested in the BALB/c-3T3 cell transformation assay.
