BACKGROUND: N-methylcarbamate insecticides are widely used chemicals for crop protection. This study examines the hydrolytic and photolytic cleavage of benfuracarb, carbosulfan and carbofuran under natural conditions. Their toxicity and that of the corresponding main degradation products toward aquatic organisms were evaluated.

Vancomycin and β-lactams are clinically important antibiotics that inhibit the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links, but their binding targets are different. The binding target of vancomycin is d-alanine-d-alanine (d-Ala-d-Ala), whereas that of β-lactam is penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). PURPOSE: To investigate the role of netarsudil as an outcome predictor of MicroPulse transscleral laser therapy (MPTLT).
DESIGN: Retrospective comparative study.
SUBJECTS: Forty-seven eyes in 33 adult patients with glaucoma with a minimum of 1 month of follow-up after netarsudil treatment and 3 months of follow-up after MPTLT were included. Eyes receiving intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering procedures in the interim were excluded.
INTERVENTION: Ophthalmic eyedrops of netarsudil at 0.02%, followed by MPTLT treatment.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitors are growing increasingly relevant in ophthalmology, and the goal of this review is to summarize their mechanisms of action and potential applications in the subspecialties of glaucoma, retina, and cornea. In some enterobacterial pathogens, but not in Escherichia coli, loss-of-function mutations in the ampD gene are a common route to beta-lactam antibiotic resistance. We constructed an assay system for studying mechanism(s) of enterobacterial ampD mutation using the well-developed genetics of E. coli. We integrated the Enterobacter ampRC genes into the E. coli chromosome. These cells acquire spontaneous recombination- and SOS response-independent beta-lactam resistance mutations in ampD. This chromosomal system is useful for studying mutation mechanisms that promote antibiotic resistance.

AIM: CGX is a modification of a traditional herbal medicine for "liver cleaning," which is used to treat various chronic liver disorders in oriental clinics. This study investigated the antifibrotic effects and associated mechanisms of CGX.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Liver fibrosis was induced in rats by dimethylnitrosamine (DMN; 10 mg kg(-1), ip) injection on 3 consecutive days per week for 4 weeks.
