OBJECTIVE: To explore a better operative approach to resect complicated pelvic retroperitoneal tumors.
METHODS: A total of 28 patients with complicated pelvic retroperitoneal tumors who received surgical resection in our hospital from 2006 to 2010 were included in this study. We present a case of retroperitoneal femoral nerve injury after cut wounds at the lower abdomen. Electrodiagnostic tests revealed impaired function of nerve and muscles. A mass was observed at the retroperitoneal part of the femoral nerve by ultrasound, indicating that a traumatic neuroma composed of disordered fascicles was configurated after the injury. Laparoscopy is now a standard technique in pediatric surgery and urology. Unique complications have been reported during port/instrument insertion and dissection, often relating to issues of visibility or working space. Complications during specimen retrieval are currently unreported. We describe our experience of 2 serious complications occurring during attempted retrieval of a specimen through a port site at the end of the laparoscopic procedure.

We describe a case of retroperitoneal paragonimiasis presenting as periureteral masses. CT showed a conglomerate of enhancing nodules with subtle low attenuation in the center at the left iliac fossa and clustered, ring-like, enhancing lesions at the left renal hilum. When a retroperitoneal conglomerate of ring-like, enhancing lesions in association with pleuropulmonary disease suggestive of paragonimiasis can be found in endemic regions or in migrants from those regions, one may expect ectopic-retroperitoneal paragonimiasis.

Sarcoidosis frequently involves the abdomen, although imaging studies often fail to demonstrate disease. The most common computed tomography (CT) findings in abdominal sarcoidosis are hepatosplenomegaly and retroperitoneal adenopathy, followed by focal low-attenuation lesions of the liver and spleen.
