BACKGROUND: The intratympanic application of ototoxic antibiotics and saccotomia have been well documented in severe cases of one-sided Menière's disease for 30 years now. Both treatment methods are still subject to controversial discussion.
PATIENTS AND MATERIAL: This study includes 8 patients suffering from persistent one-sided Menière's disease after treatment with gentamicin application and additional saccotomia (n=2). We performed follow-up visits including the assessment of hearing ability, vestibular function and cranial MRI, 2-10 years after onset of treatment.

Patients with panic disorder often describe dizziness as a disturbing symptom, with more severe episodes reported than in other psychiatric populations. Nineteen patients diagnosed as having a panic disorder were tested for vestibulo-ocular (VOR) abnormalities with the Vestibular Autorotation Test (VAT), a computerized test of the high-frequency (2 to 6 Hz) VOR. OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: To evaluate the age-related effects of vestibular schwannoma (VS) on postural control and whether the postoperative postural strategies differ according to age.
STUDY DESIGN: Longitudinal, transversal study.
METHODS: Forty-seven VS patients were split into three groups according to age (group I, 14 patients aged from 30 to 44 years; group II, 21 patients aged from 45 to 59 years; and group III, 12 patients aged from 60 to 75 years). All patients underwent vestibular and posturographic testing shortly before as well as 8 days and 3 months after surgical tumor removal.

This is a retrospective review of clinical data and audiovestibular test results from four children in whom symptoms suggesting Ménière's disease started at 4-7 years of age. OBJECTIVE: This study applied bone-conducted vibration (BCV) stimuli at various repetition rates to investigate the effects of repetition rate on both ocular and cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (oVEMPs and cVEMPs).

It is known that delayed endolymphatic hydrops (DEH) occurs in patients with unilateral and/or bilateral profound hearing loss. In the ipsilateral and bilateral types of DEH, no audiological tests can be performed on the affected ear because of profound deafness, although these tests can be done in the contralateral type. The values of the individual audiological and vestibular examination methods in multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis are discussed. Our experience shows that the most accurate indications are provided by acoustic stapedius reflex, brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) and vestibular investigation.
