BACKGROUND: Corticosteroids, especially dexamethasone, play a critical role in chemotherapy for pediatric hematological malignancies. We previously observed that patients with complaints of headache or photophobia during corticosteroid administration had high intraocular pressure (IOP).

BACKGROUND: Lymph node metastasis is an established predictor of poor outcome for adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC); however, routine lymphadenectomy during surgical resection of ACC is not widely performed and its therapeutic role remains unclear.
METHODS: Patients undergoing margin-negative resection for localized ACC were identified from a multi-institutional database. Patients were stratified into 2 groups based on the surgeon's effort or not to perform a lymphadenectomy as documented in the operative note. Clinical, pathologic, and outcome data were compared between the 2 groups.

Renal paraneoplastic vasculitis (RNPV) is rare. It can be revealed by glomerulonephritis, microaneurysms or renal failure. RPNV may precede the onset of the primary tumor, and treatment and prognosis depend on the etiology (primary tumor). A 54-year-old man who had a primary lung adenocarcinoma was admitted for nephrotic syndrome. The investigations revealed RNPV. The patient was treated with corticosteroids at high dose and cyclophosphamide with improvement of the renal condition; however, the patient died from worsening of his pulmonary neoplasia.

Mucormycosis is a rare but emerging group of life-threatening opportunistic mycoses. We described experience of eight patients who developed mucormycosis. These patients had developed hematologic malignancies, and none achieved complete remission. Six of the eight patients presented with neutropenia, five received corticosteroid, and four had concomitant hyperglycemia. We report on a 44 year old woman with fever, cutaneous rash, severe sore throat, arthritis, leukocytosis, splenomegaly and liver dysfunction. After exclusion of an infectious or malignant disease, adult onset Still's disease was diagnosed according to the Yamaguchi criteria. Reduction of the initial treatment with corticosteroids after 4 month caused a relapse of disease. Thus methotrexate treatment was started, which resulted in improvement of symptoms and inflammatory activity.
