Based on the information of the interdisciplinary task force on allergy diagnostics in the metal branch, in 2001, the German Contact Dermatitis Research Group (DKG) compiled two metalworking fluid (MWF) test series with currently and previously used components, respectively. Diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) is an aromatic diamine used in the manufacture of rubber, plastics, diisocyanates, dyes and adhesives. It may cross-react with para-(amino)compounds. Baker and confectioner apprentices have been included in a prospective follow-up study in the region of East Thuringia, to evaluate risk factors for the development of hand dermatitis. Starting in August 1996, the apprentices have been interviewed and examined in a standardized way right at the beginning (n=91) of their vocational training, 6 (n=79) and 12 months (n=63) later. Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare, painful, ulcerative neutrophilic dermatosis that is not usually seen on the hands. Pyoderma gangrenosum is a diagnosis of exclusion, as there are no specific laboratory or histopathologic findings to confirm the diagnosis. Heightened awareness and early recognition are needed to decrease morbidity in these patients.

Capecitabine, a fluoropyrimidine carbamate with antineoplastic activity, is an oral agent that was developed as a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil and is used in the treatment of metastatic colorectal and breast cancers. Multiple cutaneous adverse effects had been described with the use of this drug, but to our knowledge, specific association with capecitabine and hand-foot syndrome with sclerodactyly-like changes has been described only once. We report a patient with a colon adenocarcinoma who presented with hand-foot syndrome, with sclerodactyly-like changes induced by capecitabine.
