PURPOSE: To determine the factors associated with visual acuity loss following transscleral Nd:YAG cyclophotocoagulation (TYC).
METHODS: The authors retrospectively studied 479 patients followed for a mean of 22 months after the initial TYC in one eye and analyzed the data with univariate and multivariate analysis for the factors associated with visual acuity loss. Data analyzed included age, race, sex, preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) and visual acuity, type of glaucoma, total energy per treatment, number of retreatments, final IOP, and duration of follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the long-term visual outcome, rate of persistent choroidal neovascularization, and rate of recurrent choroidal neovascularization in eyes undergoing laser photocoagulation for choroidal neovascularization secondary to ocular histoplasmosis syndrome.
DESIGN AND PATIENTS: One hundred one eyes with 5 to 16 years of follow-up that presented with choroidal neovascularization secondary to ocular histoplasmosis were retrospectively evaluated. Patients were grouped according to location of choroidal neovascularization and assignment to observation or laser photocoagulation.

Neodymium: YAG cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) was performed in 128 eyes of 123 patients with refractory glaucoma. In each eye, 40 burns delivered with energy of up to 7 J were placed 1.5 mm behind the limbus in a 360 degrees pattern. The minimal follow-up period was 24 months, with the mean being 36.9 (range, 24-84; SD, 5.8) months. Twenty three cases of colorectal carcinoma with partial or complete obstruction were managed by laser ablation of tumour tissue. There were 14 males and 9 females with a mean age of 63 years (30-87). Nineteen cases (82.6%) were in the rectosigmoid while two cases each were in the anal canal and descending colon. Fifteen (65.2%) were proliferative growths and the remaining (8, 34.7%) were circumferential growths. Prior dilatation under fluoroscopic control was done where required. Lumen was achieved in a single sitting in 14 (60.8%) cases, while in the others two to five sittings were required.

We report four patients with functionally significant inadvertent cyclodialysis cleft. In three, the cleft followed uneventful extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation; in the fourth, blunt trauma with hyphema. Ocular hypotony resolved in three patients with medical therapy; the fourth required argon laser photocoagulation.
