An altered gravitational environment represents a unique challenge for biological systems that have evolved against gravitational background. Ground-based and space research indicates that the developing nervous system is potentially affected by exposure to hyper/microgravity. Neuro-otological and posturography findings in 15 patients with visually induced vertiginous symptoms (visual vertigo, VV) are reported. Most patients were considered to have peripheral vestibular disorders but one had cerebellar degeneration and another a brainstem stroke. Five patients showed abnormally large body sway induced by full-field visual motion stimulation; including the 2 patients with CNS disease. The authors report two cases of arachnoid cysts of the cerebello-pontine angle. The otologic symptoms were unsteadiness, hearing fall and tinnitus. In the first case, the patient who presented a cerebellar syndrome was operated. Afterwards the hearing felt and he developed a transient hydrocephalus. The symptoms disappeared in 9 months. In the second cas, the patient was not operated. She was treated medically and supervised. Then the symptoms disappeared too. The authors review the paraclinic exams especially MR, relevant to the diagnosis and discuss the opportunity of a surgical operation.

It describes specific parameters typical of the intermediate processes of the cardiovascular system that are prognostically important for the evaluation of the vestibular stability. BACKGROUND: Chronic rocking dizziness, often described as the feeling of being on a boat, is classically triggered by prolonged exposure to passive motion. Patients with this motion-triggered sensation of rocking, which is also known as MAL DE DEBARQUEMENT SYNDROME , often develop new onset headaches along with the dizziness. Chronic rocking dizziness has also been noted in vestibular migraine, occurring without a motion trigger.
