SGAMARN: A GAN Framework for Metal Artifact Reduction in CT Imaging.

Metallic objects cause severe artifacts degrading CT image quality, complicating interpretation, and influencing clinical diagnosis in radiation therapy. This paper introduces a novel Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) framework developed for metal artifact reduction (MAR), incorporating a transformer generator and a conditional discriminator, jointly optimized to improve artifact removal while maintaining anatomical accuracy. We adopt a modified U-Net structure for the generator, featuring hierarchical encoder stages, a bottleneck, and an asymmetric decoder. The encoder utilizes transformer

Spectral-X: Latent prior enhanced spectral CT restoration with mamba-assisted X-net.

Compared with conventional computed tomography (CT), spectral CT can simultaneously visualize internal structures and characterize the material composition of scanned objects by acquiring data at different energy spectra. Photon-counting CT (PCCT) and multi-source CT (MSCT) are two promising implementations of spectral CT. Besides, radiation exposure remains a long-standing concern in CT imaging, as excessive X-ray exposure may lead to genetic and cellular damage. For PCCT and MSCT, the radiation dose can be reduced by lowering the tube current and adopting complementary limited-view scanning,

Bidirectional interaction directional variance attention model based on increased-transformer for thyroid nodule classification.

Malignant thyroid nodules are closely linked to cancer, making the precise classification of thyroid nodules into benign and malignant categories highly significant. However, the subtle differences in contour between benign and malignant thyroid nodules, combined with the texture features obscured by the inherent noise in ultrasound images, often result in low classification accuracy in most models. To address this, we propose a Bidirectional Interaction Directional Variance Attention Model based on Increased-Transformer, named IFormer-DVNet. This paper proposes the Increased-Transformer, whic

MACFNet: Detection of Alzheimer's disease via multiscale attention and cross-enhancement fusion network.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a dreaded degenerative disease that results in a profound decline in human cognition and memory. Due to its intricate pathogenesis and the lack of effective therapeutic interventions, early diagnosis plays a paramount role in AD. Recent research based on neuroimaging has shown that the application of deep learning methods by multimodal neural images can effectively detect AD. However, these methods only concatenate and fuse the high-level features extracted from different modalities, ignoring the fusion and interaction of low-level features

NeuroMotion: Open-source platform with neuromechanical and deep network modules to generate surface EMG signals during voluntary movement.

Neuromechanical studies investigate how the nervous system interacts with the musculoskeletal (MSK) system to generate volitional movements. Such studies have been supported by simulation models that provide insights into variables that cannot be measured experimentally and allow a large number of conditions to be tested before the experimental analysis. However, current simulation models of electromyography (EMG), a core physiological signal in neuromechanical analyses, remain either limited in accuracy and conditions or are computationally heavy to apply. Here, we provide a computational pla

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma segmentation in PET-CT images via hybrid learning for feature fusion.

PURPOSE: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is an aggressive type of lymphoma with high mortality and poor prognosis that especially has a high incidence in Asia. Accurate segmentation of DLBCL lesions is crucial for clinical radiation therapy. However, manual delineation of DLBCL lesions is tedious and time-consuming. Automatic segmentation provides an alternative solution but is difficult for diffuse lesions without the sufficient utilization of multimodality information. Our work is the first study focusing on positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT) feature fusion f

New Auxiliary Function with Properties in Nonsmooth Global Optimization for Melanoma Skin Cancer Segmentation.

In this paper, an algorithm is introduced to solve the global optimization problem for melanoma skin cancer segmentation. The algorithm is based on the smoothing of an auxiliary function that is constructed using a known local minimizer and smoothed by utilising Bezier curves. This function achieves all filled function properties. The proposed optimization method is applied to find the threshold values in melanoma skin cancer images. The proposed algorithm is implemented on PH2, ISBI2016 challenge, and ISBI 2017 challenge datasets for melanoma segmentation. The results show that the proposed a

Use of Deep Learning Models in the Diagnosis of Proptosis Through Orbital Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

BACKGROUND Proptosis is a common manifestation of orbital disease; however, current diagnostic tools, such as the Hertel exophthalmometer and manual radiological measurements, have limited reproducibility and are observer-dependent. More objective, automated approaches are needed. In this single-center retrospective study, orbital magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations from 521 participants (261 with proptosis, 260 controls) were analyzed. Proptosis was defined on MRI using interzygomatic line-based distance criteria. Three-dimensional convolutional neural network models based on DenseN

Convolutional neural networks quantify antibiotic resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis with diagnostic grade accuracy and predict treatment response.

There is considerable interest in training machine learning (ML) models on genomic data that achieve clinical grade diagnostic accuracy. Many successful ML models have been trained and validated on binary tasks because predicting biomedically relevant continuous variables is difficult to optimize. In this work, we present convolutional neural networks (CNNs) that predict minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for eight antibiotics from Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) gene sequences. By including evolutionary information, protein biochemical properties, and data augmentation for rar

Mixed U-Net: Segmentation of focal liver lesions using a hybrid 2D and 3D model.

BACKGROUND: Accurate segmentation of liver tumors on contrast-enhanced CT is essential for clinical decision-making, but remains challenging due to irregular tumor boundaries and the difficulty of distinguishing lesions from blood vessels and bile ducts. Although 3D convolutional networks effectively capture inter-slice contextual information, they are computationally intensive and memory-demanding. In contrast, 2D networks are efficient but limited by their inability to model volumetric context, often resulting in discontinuous or inaccurate segmentations. 2.5D approaches that stack adjacent

Multi-window scanning method for region-of-interest selection in pancreatic endoscopic ultrasound images.

This study presents a method for semantic segmentation of pancreatic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) images. We developed a hybrid method to automatically select relevant frames from EUS video sequences, employing two nested dynamic windows: a smaller window scans local regions of each frame, while a larger window defines the overall scanning area, capturing spatial context. Texture features, including mode, mean, and standard deviation, are extracted from both windows to construct a feature vector for a fully connected neural network classifier (NNC), which predicts the class of each pixel. Leveraging commonality across multiple tissue slices for enhanced whole slide image classification using graph convolutional networks.

BACKGROUND: Accurate classification of histopathological whole slide images (WSIs) is essential for cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. Conventional WSI creation involves slicing a biopsy tissue into multiple slices, placing them on a single glass slide, and digitally scanning them. While deep learning approaches have shown promise in WSI analysis, they mostly overlook potential common patterns across different slices of the original tissue. METHODS: We propose a novel technique that leverages inter-slice commonality to enhance classification performance. Our method constructs graphs for

ToBaFu: Topology-based fusion model for classification of two-dimensional cancer images.

Medical images play a pivotal role in disease diagnosis. Numerous studies on cancer image analysis focus on end-to-end deep neural networks, neglecting the analysis of global topological features in images. In cancer diagnosis, pathological images frequently display structures like holes or loops that are absent in healthy images, highlighting the benefits of topological analysis of images. In our study, we employ persistent homology (PH) to extract topological features from two-dimensional cancer images. Then, we propose a topology-based model (Topo) for image classification by implementing a

Shape-aware inference scheme for selective extraction of head-neck arteries on computer tomography angiography images.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The extraction of head-neck blood vessels from 3D medical images plays a vital role in diagnosing vascular diseases. While many existing methods rely on convolutional neural networks (CNNs), they can encounter challenges in maintaining the continuity of extracted vessels, particularly when segmenting these slender tubular structures within 3D images. This study aims to address these challenges by introducing a novel inference method that preserves vessel continuity taking into consideration the global geometry of vascular structures, while also reducing the number of
