BACKGROUND: Knowledge of the three-dimensional (3D) infarct structure and fiber orientation remodeling is essential for complete understanding of infarct pathophysiology and post-infarction electromechanical functioning of the heart. Accurate imaging of infarct microstructure necessitates imaging techniques that produce high image spatial resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The aim of this study is to provide detailed reconstruction of 3D chronic infarcts in order to characterize the infarct microstructural remodeling in porcine and human hearts.

Clinical protocols for stem cell-based therapies are currently under development for patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. An ideal cell delivery method should have minimal safety risks and provide a wide distribution of cells to the nonischemic right ventricle (RV). However, the optimal strategy for stem cell delivery to the RV has yet to be explored in a preclinical model, necessary for a hypoplastic left heart syndrome trial. One of the largest and longest Salmonella outbreaks in Germany within the last 10 years occurred in central Germany in 2013. BACKGROUND: Glycinin is a seed storage protein in soybean (Glycine max) that is allergenic in pigs. Glycinin is a hexamer composed of subunits consisting of basic and acidic portions joined by disulfide bridges. There are five glycinin subunit isoforms designated Gy1-Gy5.
