CLINICAL CASE: A 46-year-old woman with no relevant medical history, native of Honduras and resident in Spain for one and a half months. The patient went to the Emergency Department due to inflammation of the upper eyelid of the right eye, with an area that simulated an abscess. Investigation of restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) associated with immunoglobulin E (IgE) and cytokine genes in the sheep genome revealed polymorphisms in the IgE constant heavy chain, interferon gamma and interleukin 4 genes. No polymorphisms were found in interleukin 1 beta or tumour necrosis factor alpha. PstI and BamHI RFLPs in the IgE gene showed differences in frequency between animals selected for resistance or susceptibility to fleece rot and blowfly strike.

A paste formulation containing 14.3 per cent of oxibendazole and 44 per cent of trichlorfon was administered to 33 ponies and horses. The dose rate used was equivalent to 10 mg and 30 mg/kg bodyweight, of oxibendazole and trichlorfon respectively.
