Mineral trioxide aggregate versus calcium hydroxide for pulpotomy in primary molars.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and calcium hydroxide (CH) for pulpotomy in primary molars. METHODS: A randomised, bilateral self-controlled clinical trial was designed to compare the clinical effect of MTA and CH in pulpotomies in primary molars in 4- to 9-year-old children. Children with two similar-sized cavities on bilateral primary molar counterparts requiring pulpotomies were included. The two contralateral molars in each patient were randomly assigned to MTA or CH treatment. Clinical and radiographic examinations were performed to evaluate the trea

Influence of Restoration Height and Masticatory Load Orientation on Ceramic Endocrowns.

AIM: Endocrown restorations are an alternative to restore end-odontically treated teeth. Due to the fact that in the literature it is recommended a remnant of 1.5 mm, different heights of endocrown were elaborated and analyzed, obtaining possible faults and their location. This study aimed to evaluate the mechanism of stress distribution in the tooth/restoration set, varying two factors: "restoration height"-three levels, and load application-two levels (oblique or axial), totaling six groups. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For finite element analysis (FEA), a maxillary premolar was modeled with an e

Semidirect Restorations in Multidisciplinary Treatment: Viable Option for Children and Teenagers.

Due to the esthetic necessity required nowadays, the multidisciplinary treatment became a fundamental step in the restoration success. When the patient exhibits dental agenesis of one or more elements, he can show difficulty in social interactions. The age of the patient is a limiting factor to esthetic procedures, however, it should be evaluated as a real indicative with each case. The utilization of semi-direct restorations is a viable option due the cost, esthetic and improvement of physical and mechanical properties. The purpose of this paper is to present a case detailing the confection a

The influence of finish line curvature on the marginal gap width of ceramic copings.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: As a result of natural tooth anatomy or gingival recession, anterior teeth are more likely to present increased abutment finish line curvature. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the curvature of the finish line on the marginal gap widths of ceramic copings. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An ivorine maxillary central incisor was prepared for 3 different abutment finish line curvatures (1, 3, and 5 mm). Thirty-six copings were fabricated for each of these curvatures by using Cercon, IPS e.max, and Lava systems. The marginal gap width was measur

[Prosthodontic rehabilitation of immediately placed dental implants following soft tissue augmentation. Case report].

A 68-year-old nonsmoking male patient with thin gingival biotype presented for treatment of mobile mandibular left premolars. Extraction of teeth and immediate dental implant placement has been suggested. To prevent vestibular gingival recession and insure tissue stability by increasing thickness of marginal gingiva, acellular dermal matrix allograft was applied using the coronally advanced modified tunnelling technique. Six months later premolars were extracted, immediately replaced with implants and temporary crowns. After another four months, definitive gold ceramic crowns were cemented on

Localized vertical maxillary ridge augmentation using symphyseal bone cores: a technique and case report.

Vertical augmentation of the alveolar ridge is intended to restore resorbed alveolar ridges. This procedure is important for the placement of dental implants in a favorable position and also to enhance restoration esthetics. This article presents an approach for vertical ridge augmentation in the anterior maxilla utilizing symphyseal bone cores. A patient presented with 2 localized bony defects around the maxillary lateral incisors. Following extraction of these teeth, vertical bone defects of 7 mm on the right and 6 mm on the left were observed in relation to the cementoenamel junction of the

Direct pulp capping versus partial pulpotomy using RetroMTA® in deeply carious primary molars with normal pulp or reversible pulpitis: a superiority randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Coronal pulpotomy (CP) has commonly been used after vital pulp exposure in deeply carious primary molars, although some concerns remain regarding unnecessary pulp removal and procedural morbidity. With the increasing use of calcium silicate cements (CSCs), more conservative vital pulp therapies, such as direct pulp capping (DPC) and partial pulpotomy (PP), have received growing attention. However, direct comparative clinical evidence between these approaches in primary molars is limited. Accordingly, this study sought to compare the cumulative survival probabilities of DPC and PP u
