Histoplasma capsulatum is a thermally dimorphic fungal pathogen endemic to the Mississippi and Ohio River Valley regions of North America and much of Central and South America. A case of fatal Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in a previously healthy 18-year-old girl is reported. On hospital day 9, the antibody titer to M. pneumoniae was 1:512 in the complement fixation test and 1:5120 in the microparticle agglutination assay. A competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA) was validated for the serodiagnosis of Brucella melitensis infection in small ruminants using 2108 positive and 2154 negative reference sera from sheep and goats. We report on an outbreak of enzootic abortion in a herd of goats with high losses caused by mixed infection with Coxiella burnetii and Chlamydia psittaci. Laboratory evidence of recent or current lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCM) virus infection was obtained in 60 patients. Twelve had diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) infection: four of meningoencephalitis and eight of meningitis. Thirty-four patients had a grippe-like syndrome.
