Real-world Evidence of Self-reported Treatments, Signs, and Symptom Burden in Chronic Hand Eczema: Findings from the Multinational CHECK Study.

Chronic hand eczema is a multifactorial disease that can impact quality of life considerably. This observational questionnaire study aimed to investigate real-world treatments and patients' experiences of disease burden across the broad severity spectrum represent-ed by the general chronic hand eczema population. The study included 1,948 individuals from 6 countries (mean age 43.2 years; 64.5% females) with self-reported physician-diagnosed chronic hand eczema. Ongoing treatment was reported in 68.6%, which included systemics or phototherapy (with or without topicals; 10.7%), topical corticost

FGD1-related Aarskog-Scott syndrome: Identification of four novel variations and a literature review of clinical and molecular aspects.

Patients with Aarskog-Scott syndrome (AAS) have short stature, facial anomalies, skeletal deformities, and genitourinary malformations. FYVE, RhoGEF, and PH domain-containing 1 (FGD1) is the only known causative gene of AAS. However, the diagnosis of AAS remains difficult, and specific treatments are still absent. Patients suspected with AAS were recruited, and clinical information was collected. Genetic testing and functional analysis were carried out for the diagnosis. By literature review, we summarized the clinical and genetic characteristics of FGD1-related AAS and analyzed the genotype-p

Filaggrin gene mutations in hand eczema patients in the Indian subcontinent: A prospective case-control study.

BACKGROUND: There are no Indian studies on the association between filaggrin gene (FLG) mutations and any dermatosis, including hand eczema. OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of FLG mutations in Indian hand eczema patients, and examine associations between such mutations and any aetiological type of hand eczema. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 163 patients and 86 controls were included. Patients were categorized into aetiological subtypes of hand eczema. FLG polymorphisms (S2889X, 2282del4, R501X, and Q2417X) were determined in patients and controls, and correlated with subtypes. RE

Effectiveness of a secondary prevention protocol for occupational contact dermatitis.

BACKGROUND: Occupational skin diseases are often responsible for sick leave or job changes, affect mostly young subjects, are costly to society and have been reported as significant predictor of unemployment. OBJECTIVES: To assess, over time, the course of occupational hand dermatitis (OHD) after a specific training, by means of follow-up visits and TEWL measurement, to evaluate skin barrier integrity and if preventive measures for hand skin care provided may influence the course of the disease. METHODS: Workers with a diagnosis of OHD from January 2011 to December 2013 were contacted by tel

The dermatology hospitalist: creating value by rapid clinical pathologic correlation in a patient-centered care model.

BACKGROUND: The active and continuous presence of dermatologists in hospitals has undergone continued involution over the past two decades. Our patient-centered, value-based dermatology hospitalist model describes an efficient system for the integration of the dermatologist in the hospital treatment team. METHODS: We describe five difficult inpatient cases to illustrate the value of dermatology intervention and clinical pathologic correlation in facilitating timely diagnosis and treatment. RESULTS: Prompt specialty evaluation and clinicopathologic correlation by hospital dermatologists led t

Hydroxyurea-associated dermatomyositis-like eruption demonstrating abnormal epidermal p53 expression: a potential premalignant manifestation of chronic hydroxyurea and UV radiation exposure.

BACKGROUND: Chronic hydroxyurea therapy is associated with numerous cutaneous adverse effects. While hydroxyurea-associated nonmelanoma skin cancers are known to be associated with significant morbidity and occasional mortality, to date, dermatomyositis-like eruption has been considered a benign entity, other than its ability to mimic true dermatomyositis leading to inappropriate immunosuppression. More recently, hydroxyurea-associated squamous dysplasia has been characterized as a premalignant precursor to hydroxyurea-associated nonmelanoma skin cancers and shown to manifest abnormal p53 expr

Upper extremity Mycobacterium marinum infection.

Mycobacterium marinum is the cause of opportunistic infections in man. Although its clinical presentation is usually cutaneous, osteoarticular infections are not rare and should be rapidly diagnosed. Orthopaedic surgeons may have to manage a patient with this mycobacterial infection and should be able to make this diagnosis based on information about the patient's history and clinical criteria. Lesions develop from a skin wound, with a single nodule or a bright purplish-red patch with papules; they also may be inflamed or may abscess. Secondary lesions may develop as the disease progresses. Subcutaneous nodules with sporotrichoid spread.

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium marinum is an atypical mycobacterium found worldwide and associated with swimming pools and aquariums. Infections typically present with subcutaneous nodules and lymphangitis. CASE REPORT: A 61-year-old female presented with a two-month history of subcutaneous nodules. The patient had a significant recent history that included rose gardening and cleaning her aquarium at home. Biopsy for histology and tissue culture proved the presence of infection with Mycobacterium marinum and the patient was treated with minocycline. The nodules eventually healed and no new lesions

Dyshidrotic eczema and occupation: a descriptive study.

Dyshidrotic eczema (DE) is a chronic and/or recurrent vesicular eczema of the palmar sides of the hands and sometimes the soles of the feet. The major aetiologies to be considered are atopic DE, contact DE, systemic contact DE and DE due to fungal or microbial allergy. To clarify the role of occupational contact allergens, 59 workers with DE were examined to determine whether they had atopy, environmental contact sensitization and/or contact allergy coupled with work activity. For all, patch testing was carried out using the European standard series and the material brought in by the patients.

Latex exposure and allergy: a survey of general dental practitioners and dental students.

Gloves are now worn routinely by most general dental practitioners and dental students while treating patients, with latex being the most commonly used glove material. By means of a questionnaire, this study surveyed 160 students in one dental school and 300 randomly selected general dental practitioners in respect of their exposure to latex. Response rates were 74.4 per cent and 57.3 per cent for dental students and practitioners respectively. Adverse skin reactions to the wearing of latex gloves was reported by 18.5 per cent of dental students and 22.8 per cent of practitioners. Analysis of

Water protective effect of barrier creams and moisturizing creams: a new in vivo test method.

Frequent exposure to water is an important risk factor for the development of irritant hand eczema. Evaluation of cream efficacy in protecting against water is difficult. A new non-irritant, non-invasive method is introduced, based on evaluation of colour intensities when an aqueous solution of crystal violet is applied to the skin, after pretreatment with different creams. By skin reflectance measurement, differences in colour intensity were objectified. Measurements of transepidermal water loss were also performed, 2 barrier creams and a moisturizer were tested on the dorsal and volar aspect

[Importance of epicutaneous tests in drug allergy].

Epicutaneous tests do not permit resolution of all the problems set by drug allergy, but they are an important asset. Their value is sure when the pathology does not correspond precisely with a Gell and Coombes hypersensitisation classification, and especially when there is an interaction between several mechanisms. This presentation of five cases shows the value of these tests.

Efficacy and Safety of Delgocitinib and Its Impact on Patient's Perspective for Moderate-to-severe Chronic Hand Eczema in Adults: A 16-week Real-world Prospective Multicentre Study.

Delgocitinib is a pan-Janus kinase inhibitor approved for moderate-to-severe chronic hand eczema (CHE) in adults. However, real-world evidence remains limited. We prospectively evaluated 149 adult patients (mean age: 46.4 years; 60.4 % female) treated with delgocitinib for chronic hand eczema across 20 Italian dermatology centres between May and November 2025, with a four-month follow-up. Two-thirds of patients were non-occupationally exposed, and>80% had vesicular or atopic chronic hand eczema. At week 4, Physician Global Assessment (PGA)-chronic hand eczema 0/1 and Hand Eczema Severity Index

Expert Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Chronic Hand Eczema in the United States.

Chronic hand eczema (CHE) is an inflammatory skin disease localized to the hands and wrists that lasts for more than 3 months or relapses at least twice per year. The diagnosis, treatment, and management of CHE presents clinical challenges owing to its multifactorial etiology, heterogeneous presentation, and the absence of a standardized classification system. In the USA there are no specific International Classification of Disease-10 (ICD-10) diagnostic codes, which makes tracking the diagnosis and resultant treatments difficult. Topical delgocitinib is currently the only Food and Drug Admini

Contact sensitisation in hand eczema patients-relation to subdiagnosis, severity and quality of life: a multi-centre study.

BACKGROUND: Contact sensitisation has been identified as a factor associated with poor prognosis for patients with hand eczema. OBJECTIVES: To study implications of contact sensitisation with respect to severity, quality of life (QoL) and subdiagnosis of hand eczema. METHODS: The study was performed as a multi-centre, cross-sectional study from 10 European clinics. All patients were patch tested, and severity of hand eczema assessed by Hand Eczema Severity Index. A multi-variate analysis was performed to explore which factors influenced severity, QoL and sick leave. RESULTS: A total 416 pat
