Rosacea fulminans (RF) is a rare facial dermatosis characterized by the sudden onset of severe facial inflammation consisting of numerous pustules, cystic swellings and coalescing sinuses. The standard treatment is the retinoid drug isotretinoin in combination with systemic corticosteroids or with high-dose oral tetracycline antibiotics. We report three recent cases of RF in pregnancy with differing obstetric outcomes: an intrauterine death, a termination of pregnancy, and a normal vaginal delivery. The pathogenesis of RF is considered and therapeutic options in pregnancy are reviewed.

This study assessed the frequency of milia, alveolar and palatal cysts prevalence in newborns as well as the time for complete involution of the most common reported inclusion cyst. Milia, alveolar and palatal cysts were observed in respectively, 31.4%, 28.2% and 78.8% of the newborns. Those that presented milia were 1.2 times more likely to present alveolar cysts. Mean time for complete involution of palatal cysts was 4.5 weeks.

OBJECTIVE: The treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis used in Tunisia is Glucantime. The aim of this retrospective study was to determine the adverse effects of intralesional Glucantime and to calculate the risk/benefit rate of this treatment.
RESULTS: Adverse effects were observed in 14 cases (5%). For facial lesions, we observed facial staphylococci in 2 cases, stibio-intolerance in 1 case, and a palpebral subcutaneous nodule in 1 case. In limb lesions the complications were: sporotrichoid nodules in 5 cases, vagal malaise (1 case), pyodermitis (1 case), erysipelas (1 case), necrosis (1 case)

This article reviews how the drug thalidomide can be used for various dermatologic disorders. Also included is a short discussion of the chemistry and physiologic mechanisms of thalidomide. Thalidomide, now available again in the United States, is another drug that can be considered by dermatologists for some severe, unusual disorders.

A retrospective review of all eyelid dermatitis patients seen over an 18-year period revealed a large subgroup of patients who had, as the basis for their ongoing problem, an addiction to the use of topical or systemic corticosteroids. This group of 100 patients often sought many consultations with various physicians. Unrelenting eyelid or facial dermatitis often resulted in the use of increasing amounts of corticosteroids for longer periods of time. Soon the skin became addicted. A 35-year-old woman with a history of atopic diathesis presented to the emergency department with 2 weeks of widespread facial vesiculopustules and eroded vesicles. HSV-1 was found on viral culture and direct fluorescent antibody testing. She was diagnosed with eczema herpeticum, an uncommon and potentially life-threatening viral infection that arises in areas of pre-existing dermatosis. Antiviral treatment for eczema herpeticum is very effective, and should be instituted without delay to avoid significant morbidity and mortality.
