BACKGROUND: Oxidative stress may play an important role in the development of atherosclerosis. Because N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is able to reduce oxidative stress, the present study assessed the hypothesis that NAC may reduce the severity of atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein (apo) E-deficient mice.

Alopecia areata-like hair loss has been observed in C3H/HeJ mice and can be defined as a tissue-restricted T cell mediated disease of the hair follicle. In our study, we for the first time investigated a role for VEGF as a factor regulating transendothelial migration of murine thymocytes in vitro. Effects of VEGF were examined in a model of thymocyte migration across a monolayer of EA.hy 926 endothelial cells.
