Auto-inflammatory diseases (periodic syndromes) are rare childhood-onset disorders which are characterized by fluctuating or recurrent episodes of fever and inflammation affecting serosal surfaces, joints, eyes and/or skin without significant autoantibody production or an identifiable underlying infection. They are disorders of innate immunity and the underlying genetic defect has been identified in most of the syndromes. Drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DIHS) is a severe form of drug eruptions associated with viral reactivations. An 11-year-old girl presented with high grade, intermittent fever and cervical lymphadenopathy. She had multiple enlarged left cervical lymph nodes. The examination of other systems was normal. Workup for sepsis, malignancy and autoimmune disease were negative. VA-IgM for EBV was positive and histopathology of the lymph node was consistent with Kikuchi's disease.

An analysis of immunophenotypes was made in benign and malignant lymphoproliferative diseases (35 cases) and short cultured lymphocytes of chronic tonsillitis (15 cases). The number, distribution and variation of interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R, CD25) and CD4 positive cells in the above lesions were studied. The results showed that (1) there were more or less IL-2R+ and CD4+ cells presented in the tissues of benign lymphoproliferative lesions; (2) IL-2R antigen was also presented in some tumor and non-tumor cells with CD4+ reaction but it was not found in the cells with CD1+ or/and CD8+ reaction

Twenty-seven men with laboratory-confirmed lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) were identified among 211 patients tested for LGV or chancroid during a 6-y period. The patients with LGV ranged in age from 17 to 73 y; most were from countries other than France. The presence of capsulate Bacteroides spp. and anaerobic gram-positive cocci was investigated in pus specimens from 182 children with chronic orofacial infections or abscesses and in pharyngeal swabs from 26 children without inflammation.
