Multiple Sclerosis Nursing to Improve Care and Education (MSNICE): an observational study.

OBJECTIVE: To explore differences in patient reported outcomes, health care resources and expenditures in persons with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) with or without access to an MS-nurse. METHODOLOGY: An observational, multicenter and cross-sectional study was conducted. Seven centers with, and twelve centers without an MS-nurse participated. The multiple sclerosis impact scale-29 (MSIS-29) was the primary outcome measure. Secondary outcome measures included: hospital anxiety and depression scale, coping measures, health-economic and disease-knowledge parameters. RESULTS: Three hundred thirty-fo

Repeat Imaging in Idiopathic Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis: Is It Necessary?

OBJECTIVE: Imaging plays a critical role in the evaluation of patients presenting with unilateral vocal fold paresis or paralysis of unknown etiology. In those with idiopathic unilateral vocal fold paralysis (iUVFP), there is no consensus regarding the need or timing of repeat imaging. This study seeks to establish the rate of delayed detection of alternate etiologies for these patients to determine if and when imaging should be repeated. METHODS: Retrospective chart review was conducted identifying patients at our institution with vocal fold movement impairment between 1998 and 2014. Idiopat

A systematic review of patient and healthcare professional perceptions of the barriers and facilitators to embedding exercise in the adjuvant cancer treatment pathway.

PurposeEvidence suggests that physical activity and exercise interventions can mitigate cancer treatment side effects. However, an improved understanding of how physical activity/exercise can be embedded within cancer care pathways is needed. We examined what is known about the barriers and facilitators to implementing physical activity/exercise interventions in the adjuvant cancer treatment pathway from a patient and healthcare professional perspective. The protocol was registered a priori with PROSPERO in March 2023.MethodsElectronic databases (CINAHL Plus, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and Cochrane) we

Patient-specific risk factors for adverse outcomes following geriatric proximal femur fractures.

BACKGROUND: Proximal femur fractures (PFFs) occur frequently among geriatric patients due to diverse risk factors, such as a lower bone mineral density and the increased risk of falls. METHODS: In this review, we focus on recent literature of patient-specific risk factors and their impact on common complications and outcome parameters in patients with PFF. RESULTS: Patient- and treatment related factors have a significant impact on outcome and are associated with an increased risk of mortality, impairments in functional rehabilitation and complicative courses. Cancer Patients' Age-Related Benefits from Mobile Neurofeedback-Therapy in Quality of Life and Self-efficacy: A Clinical Waitlist Control Study.

This study aims to investigate the effects of NF therapy on QoL and self-efficacy in cancer patients and to explore age-related reactions. In a waitlist control paradigm, psychometric data (EORTC QLQ-C30, General Self-Efficacy Scale) of 20 patients were collected at three different time points, each five weeks apart. PCI is associated with unplanned readmission for angina and non-specific chest pain within 30-days of index PCI. Patients with an index hospitalization for PCI between January-November in each of the years 2010-2014 were included from the United States Nationwide Readmissions Database. Of 2 723 455 included patients, the 30-day unplanned readmission rate was 7.2% (n = 196 581, 42.3% female).
