We present histopathologic findings that have not been previously reported as associated with abnormalities of the anterior chamber angle underlying newborn primary congenital glaucoma as a distinct entity. The major histopathologic findings were partial absence and retrodisplacement of Schlemm's canal, hypoplasia of the trabecular meshwork, broad attachment of ciliary muscle to the meshwork, and anterior insertion of hypoplastic iris with the formation of a pseudomembrane. These profound anatomic derangements explain why goniosurgery is frequently unsuccessful in cases of newborn glaucoma.

In newborns with unilateral buphthalmos and presumed congenital glaucoma, the differential diagnosis should include the rare condition of orbitotemporal neurofibromatosis. The authors present the diagnostic challenge of an unusual case of neurofibromatosis type 1 with unilateral congenital glaucoma, buphthalmos, and sphenoid-orbital dysplasia. The accompanying type of osseous orbital dysplasia has rarely been described in the literature, complicating the diagnostic and management process.

Both filtering surgery with Mitomycin-C and diode laser cyclophotocoagulation have proved to be effective alternatives in cases of glaucoma with poor surgical prognosis. The right eyes of 40 pigmented rabbits were randomly divided into 2 groups: Mitomycin-C group underwent filtering surgery with application of 0.4 mg/ml of Mitomycin-C whereas the diode laser (DL) group received 15 applications of 1.8 J (1800 mW. 1000 ms) distributed in 270 degrees. Mean IOP showed statistical differences in two periods between days 3-13 and 45-60-Mann-Whitney U test -with a higher IOP lowering in the DL group.

We describe ten cases of endocapsular hematoma that developed in the early postoperative period after cataract or combined glaucoma and cataract surgery. After capsulorhexis and phacoemulsification, one of three types of posterior chamber lenses with biconvex optics was implanted in nine eyes. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of Descemet's stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) with penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) on intraocular pressure (IOP) and use of ocular antihypertensives.
DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.
PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-five eyes in 33 patients undergoing PKP and 43 eyes in 38 patients undergoing DSEK were included in the analysis. Fifteen eyes undergoing PKP and 12 undergoing DSEK had diagnosed glaucoma.
