Cerebral frontal lobe abscess may be a frequent intracranial complication of paranasal sinusitis. An unusual case of cerebral abscess complicating massive polyposis is described in a patient with history of previous severe head trauma 30 years ago. Imaging evaluation using both computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging is important to diagnose such rare entities.

First it was considered to be tuberculosis, but at microscopal examination of the lesion after neurosurgical excision the true germ was found: Blastomyces dermatitidis. Pituitary abscess is an unusual cause of sella turcica enlargement. Because its presentation closely mimics that of a pituitary tumor, the condition is seldom recognized preoperatively. Five deaths associated with the use of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) were reported during the first half of 1973 through a nationwide mail survey of physicians whose practices were likely to be involved with intrauterine contraception. Four of the five reported deaths involved serious infections, and two of these four occurred in relation to a pregnancy. Use of an IUD prior to death ranged from seven months to 3 1/2 years. The mortality attributable to IUDs is estimated to be lower than that attributable to combination oral contraceptives.

A case of cerebellar abscess due to Blastomyces dermatitidis is reported and the literature of central nervous system blastomycosis is reviewed. The case is of interest for two reasons: 1. No obvious site of primary blastomycotic infection was found, despite an extensive search. 2. The focal blastomycotic involvement of the CNS was not associated with meningitis. Only two other such cases are explicitly reported in the literature.

PURPOSE: Information on abnormal diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) patterns in bacterial meningitis (BM) is limited. This study aimed to investigate the frequency and patterns of DWI abnormalities in BM in patients with culture-positive BM.
