Intrinsic risk factors for exercise-related injuries among male and female army trainees.

Physical training-related injuries are common among army recruits and other vigorously active populations, but little is known about their causation. To identify intrinsic risk factors, we prospectively measured 391 army trainees. For 8 weeks of basic training, 124 men and 186 women (79.3%) were studied. They answered questionnaires on past activities and sports participation, and were measured for height, weight, and body fat percentage; 71% of the subjects took an initial army physical training test. Women had a significantly higher incidence of time-loss injuries than men, 44.6% compared wi

Mitigating the Risks of Lower Extremity Injuries in Soccer: A Comprehensive Analysis of Lower Extremity Injury Rates in Soccer Between 2014 and 2023.

OBJECTIVE: With events such as the Copa America 2024, the 2026 World Cup, and the arrival of European stars in Major League Soccer (MLS), the already observed and forecasted rise of soccer in the United States (US) seems to be an inevitable outcome. Although regular participation in soccer features several benefits, including increasing cardiovascular health, decreasing stress, and promoting interpersonal relationships, the risk of injury, as is the case in any sport, is ever present. Although many sports that are popular in America feature high rates of concussion, rotator cuff injuries, and

Injury incidence, risk factors and prevention in Australian rules football.

Along with the enjoyment and the other positive benefits of sport participation, there is also the risk of injury that is elevated in contact sport. This review provides a summary of injury incidence in Australian rules football (ARF), identifies injury risk factors, assesses the efficacy of interventions to reduce injury risk and makes recommendations for future research. The most common injuries were found to be muscle strains, particularly hamstrings; joint ligament sprains, especially ankle; haematomas and concussion. The most severe joint injury was anterior cruciate ligament rupture. Mou

Sport-specific injury profiles and associated factors in elite wrestlers and judokas.

BACKGROUND: Wrestling and judo involve repeated physical contact and substantial musculoskeletal demands. Although the two sports share structural similarities, differences in sport-specific demands may be associated with distinct injury characteristics. This study compared self-reported injury profiles between elite wrestlers and judokas and examined factors associated with reporting multiple injury episodes. METHODS: This cross-sectional comparative study included 289 Turkish National Team athletes, comprising 143 wrestlers and 146 judokas. Injury and health-problem data were collected retr

A case study of ascertainment bias for the primary outcome in the Strategies to Reduce Injuries and Develop Confidence in Elders (STRIDE) trial.

BACKGROUND/AIM: In clinical trials, there is potential for bias from unblinded observers that may influence ascertainment of outcomes. This issue arose in the Strategies to Reduce Injuries and Develop Confidence in Elders trial, a cluster randomized trial to test a multicomponent intervention versus enhanced usual care (control) to prevent serious fall injuries, originally defined as a fall injury leading to medical attention. An unblinded nurse falls care manager administered the intervention, while the usual care arm did not involve contact with a falls care manager. Thus, there was an oppor

Preventive efficiency of neuromuscular training in reducing lower limb injuries among youth soccer athletes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

UNLABELLED: Lower-limb injuries are common in youth soccer. Neuromuscular training (NMT) warm-ups are used, but the preventive effects across injury types in young players are unclear. This review quantified NMT effectiveness for lower-limb injury prevention in 8-18-year-old soccer players. A PRISMA-guided systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was conducted. Four databases were searched up to October 2025 using keywords including soccer/football, neuromuscular training, balance, proprioception, plyometrics, injury prevention, ACL, ankle sprain, and hamstring strai

Musculoskeletal Injury in Reserve Officers' Training Corps: A Report From the Athletic Training Practice-Based Research Network.

BACKGROUND: Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets must meet the same physical standards as active duty military servicemembers and undergo organized physical training (PT). ROTC participation, like all physical activity, can result in training-related musculoskeletal injury (MSKI), and of course, cadets could sustain MSKI outside of ROTC. However, MSKI incidence in ROTC programs is largely unknown. PURPOSE: To describe patient and injury demographics of MSKI in 5 universities' Army ROTC programs. STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive epidemiology study. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of
