AIM: Define pathophysiology, epidemiology, diagnosis and therapy in case of spinal bleeding after central neural blockade (CNB).
METHODS: Spinal epidural hematoma (SEH) following CNB may occur due to vascular trauma from needle/catheter placement and can occur in subdural and epidural spaces. Epidural artery bleeding seems the source of SEH: the damage mechanism depends on compression and neural vascular ischemia of cord, nerve roots, ganglion and toxicity from blood cell lysis products. Incidence varies (1:150.000 - 1:500.000) but SEH may be asymptomatic.

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: Aneurysms on the anterior surface of the internal carotid artery (ICA) have been shown to be somewhat different from ordinary berry aneurysms because they are rather small, grow rapidly in a short time, and easily lead to rupture, especially during surgery. The most difficult problem is that this type of aneurysm cannot be eliminated easily by an ordinary clipping procedure without causing apparent arterial stenosis or occlusion.

INTRODUCTION: We support the normal standards for two sonographic (US) signs of the posterior cranial fossa, namely the magnitude of the cisterna magna and the height of the fourth ventricle fastigium, in preterm and fullterm infants.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The cisterna magna was measured as the distance between the inferior aspect of the cerebella vermis and the inner aspect of the occiput. The height of the fourth ventricle fastigium was calculated as the line drawn from the fastigium to the inner aspect of the occiput, close to the opisthion.
RESULTS: The cisterna magna was .46 +/- .13 cm
