Esthetic restoration of a single-tooth dental implant using a subepithelial connective tissue graft: a case report with 3-year follow-up.

This case report describes the use of a subepithelial connective tissue graft to restore the gingival papillae and augment ridge soft tissues adjacent to a dental implant. The patient was referred for periodontic and prosthodontic evaluation after the placement of an implant--with the implant head 6.5 mm below the adjacent cementoenamel junction--in an area of inadequate bone volume with deficient interproximal papillae and ridge soft tissues. The resulting esthetic defect was restored by means of a combined technique that used a subepithelial connective tissue graft and an emergence profile-c

Preoperative management of glucocorticoid-dependent pedodontic patients.

Patients with adrenal insufficiency, allergic disorders, blood dyscrasias, collagen, malignant, and gastrointestinal diseases, and renal disorders may be receiving long-term courses of glucocorticoids; mismanagement could result in Addisonian crisis. If dental procedures for these patients involve moderate to severe stress, increases in the dosages of glucocorticoids shoudl be instituted before dental treatment begins.

Maxillary anterior en masse retraction using different antero-posterior position of mini screw: a 3D finite element study.

BACKGROUND: Nowadays, mini screws are used in orthodontic tooth movement to obtain maximum or absolute anchorage. They have gained popularity among orthodontists for en masse retraction of anterior teeth after first premolar extraction in maximum anchorage cases. The purpose of this study was to determine the type of anterior tooth movement during the time when force was applied from different mini screw placements to the anterior power arm with various heights. METHODS: A finite element method was used for modeling maxillary teeth and bone structure. Brackets, wire, and hooks were also desig

Application of a 3D Fusion Model to Evaluate the Efficacy of Clear Aligner Therapy in Malocclusion Patients: Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Investigating the safe range of orthodontic tooth movement is essential for maintaining oral and maxillofacial stability posttreatment. Although clear aligners rely on pretreatment digital models, their effect on periodontal hard tissues remains uncertain. By integrating cone beam computed tomography-derived cervical and root data with crown data from digital intraoral scans, a 3D fusion model may enhance precision and safety. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to construct a 3D fusion model based on artificial intelligence software that matches cone beam computed tomography and intraoral

[The extraction of the lower third molars: germectomy or late avulsion?].

INTRODUCTION: Lower third molars show the highest incidence of impaction and have been held responsible for pathologies such as pericoronitis, periodontitis, second molars tooth-crown resorption, pain, cysts or odontogenic tumors, primary or secondary crowding of the dentition. Early removal of these teeth to prevent the overmentioned problems is widely acknowledged, as many studies demonstrated a direct correlation between age and incidence of complications. These studies mostly refer to adult patients, while studies about germectomies are few. Because recent contributions showed that the ris

An update on crown lengthening. Part 1: Gingival tissue excess.

This is the first article in a two-part series which aims to provide an overview of the different techniques used to increase clinical crown height. In the first paper, the focus will be on the management of patients who present with gingival tissue excess. The different aetiologies are discussed and illustrated with clinical cases, following which a range of procedures that may be employed in the management of these patients are presented. With an increasingly ageing population, more patients are taking regular medications prescribed from their general medical practitioner, and so having a wo
