An experimental study on tympanic membrane reconstruction with acellular dermal matrix.

CONCLUSION: Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) can be used as a substitute for tympanic membrane (TM) reconstruction. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of ADM in the treatment of TM perforations. METHODS: Fifty guinea pigs were used to create TM perforations. The perforations of the left TM were repaired with ADM by patch technique in 28 guinea pigs and by underlay technique in 22 guinea pigs. The right ears were used as the control group by establishing TM perforation but without TM reconstruction. The morphological and structural status of the grafts was observed by immunohistochemist

Local ADSC Delivery Methods Accelerate Healing of Large Unburned Full-Thickness Skin Defects by Promoting an Optimal Wound Microenvironment.

BACKGROUND: This study introduces an experimental model of a large, full-thickness skin defect and evaluates how adipose-derived stem cells characterized by high self-renewal and differentiation capacity affect both wound healing and the wound microenvironment when delivered using two different local application methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this preclinical study, we established an excisional full-thickness skin defect model involving approximately 30% of the total body surface area (TBSA). Five experimental groups were formed, each containing equal numbers of male and female rats: (1)

Bacterial Biofilm on Tissue Expander and Acellular Dermal Graft After Breast Reconstruction.

A 27-year-old female underwent bilateral mastectomy with left axillary dissection and had immediate breast reconstruction with textured silicone implants and acellular dermal graft (ADG) reinforcement of the inferior quadrants. The patient was maintained on oral antibiotics postoperatively and initially did well. However, she subsequently presented with fever, erythema, and tenderness in the left chest and was admitted for intravenous antibiotic therapy. Despite improvement of her symptoms, she ultimately cultured positive for Staphylococcus aureus and had the tissue expander and the ADG mater

The effect of intraoperative immersion solutions on acellular dermal matrix: Biofilm formation and mechanical property.

BACKGROUND: Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) is generally used on implant-based breast operations; However, it can increase surgical site infection. Many immersion solutions are applied to ADM, however, the most effective solution is unknown. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of different solutions on the biofilm formation and mechanical properties of ADM. METHODS: Aseptic porcine-derived ADMs were immersed in 5 different solutions for 30 min; sterile normal saline, 10% povidone-iodine, 0.5% chlorhexidine, antibiotics (cefazolin, gentamicin, and vancomycin), and taurolidine. The use of dCELL (decellularized human dermis) for primary and revision hypospadias repair: A case-control study.

INTRODUCTION: A dartos interposition flap is often used as a waterproofing layer in hypospadias repairs. Recently, acellular dermal matrices (ADMs) have been described as an alternative. In this case-control study we compare the outcomes of using dCELL (an ADM) with dartos flap. METHODS: A retrospective, case-control study was conducted, comparing the use of dCELL in primary and revision cases to controls. Patients were matched according to age and surgical technique. Data were analysed using an independent t-test. RESULTS: 13 patients undergoing primary distal hypospadias repair using dCELL

Outcomes with porcine acellular dermal matrix versus synthetic mesh and suture in complicated open ventral hernia repair.

BACKGROUND: Mesh reinforcement as part of open ventral hernia repair (OVHR) has become the standard of care. However, there is no consensus on the ideal type of mesh to use. In many clinical situations, surgeons are reluctant to use synthetic mesh. Options in these complicated OVHRs include suture repair or the use of biologic mesh such as porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM). There has been a paucity of controlled studies reporting long-term outcomes with biologic meshes. We hypothesized that compared with synthetic mesh in OVHR, PADM is associated with fewer surgical site infections (SSI)

Threatened ventriculostomy shunt exposure: augmenting native soft tissue coverage with acellular dermal matrix graft.

Avoiding threatened ventriculostomy shunt exposure in the pediatric population remains a difficult problem for the neurosurgeon and reconstructive surgeon. In this case series, the authors present a novel method of augmenting scalp soft tissue with acellular dermal matrix (ADM) in patients with a history of ventricular shunt revisions. Soft tissue augmentation with ADM successfully prevented shunt exposure in 3 patients with a history of shunt revision due to impending exposure following conventional techniques.

Tympanic membrane perforation repair with acellular porcine submucosa.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy of acellular porcine small intestine submucosa in the repair of chronic tympanic membrane perforations. Although tympanoplasty with autologous temporalis fascia and cartilage is common practice in the repair of chronic tympanic membrane perforations, these materials are associated with increased operative time and have variable availability and quality in individual patients. Recently, new materials for tympanoplasty have been explored, including acellular human dermis. Small intestine submucosa (Surgisis) is an inexpensive and readily available alternative
