BACKGROUND: We present the case of a kidney transplant recipient with elevated serum creatinine who developed left upper limb swelling due to left subclavian vein thrombosis. Concerned about potential hemodialysis resumption, the patient prioritized preserving their arteriovenous fistula.
METHODS: To address the swelling and maintain fistula function, central venous recanalization was necessary. Given the risk of iodine contrast-induced acute kidney injury, particularly with elevated creatinine, the patient opted for carbon dioxide (CO2) angiography. Following forearm fistula puncture, a cath

A 63-year-old man was admitted to our stroke center with brain infarction in the left posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) territory. The initial MRI showed no findings suggestive of arterial dissection, and post-discharge MRI showed no temporal changes. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) revealed vasodilation of the proximal portion of the PICA but it was uncertain whether dissection was present. Discrepancy between the outer contour seen on constructive interference in steady state (CISS) MRI and the inner contour seen on DSA suggested the presence of intramural hematoma. The patie

BACKGROUND: In recent years, young neurosurgeons have had few opportunities to gain experience with clipping surgeries. The first author was sometimes surprised that she could not predict the anatomical relationships between the aneurysm and vessels during actual surgery. This study investigated the differences between the expected and actual operative findings during clipping surgery for aneurysms of the middle cerebral artery.
METHODS: Medical records for 15 patients who underwent rotational three-dimensional (3D) digital subtraction angiography (3D-DSA) before the clipping surgery were ana

BACKGROUND: Spindle cell oncocytomas (SCOs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors of the posterior pituitary that are often misdiagnosed as nonfunctional pituitary tumors. Fewer than 50 cases of SCOs have been described in the literature, and many of these reports have documented the tumors to be hypervascular on imaging or histology.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present the first cerebral angiography imaging findings of an SCO before primary resection. The discovery of a prominent tumor blush, enlarged meningohypophyseal feeders bilaterally, and prominent tumor draining veins aided in preoperative planning

The authors investigated changes in the blood supply of necrotic femoral heads using digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Digital subtraction angiography was used to evaluate the blood perfusion of osteonecrosis of the femoral head of 81 patients (81 hips). Necrotic hips were grouped according to the Association Research Circulation Osseous staging classification. Five parameters were assessed to evaluate the intraosseous blood supply of the necrotic femoral heads. The authors chose the most effective images retrospectively and measured the following parameters: the blood vessel diameter rat

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Angio-embolisation in trauma is a relatively new technique that is gaining popularity and recognition in identifying and arresting bleeding in trauma patients. We studied the possibility whether angio-embolisation using the Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), in the operating theatre (OT) could achieve successful haemostasis in trauma patients. We further studied the feasibility of using this technique as part of trauma resuscitation/damage control.
METHODS: A retrospective study of trauma patients, with Injury Severity Score (ISS ≥ 9), admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospit

BACKGROUND: Comparison of artery diameters between CT angiography (CTA) and subtraction arteriography (DSA) has the limitation that measurements on DSA are provided as relative units, making a quantitative comparison difficult. On CTA, artery diameters may depend on windowing settings and may lead to false measurements. This study assesses the correlation between CTA and DSA based on measurements in a basic imaging viewer using normalized DSA values, and assesses whether the validity is time dependent.
METHODS: Patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) were included if they unde

Cranially conjoined twins (craniopagus) are regarded as one of the rarest human malformations. Craniopagus represents 2 to 6% of conjoined twins and is the rarest type of disorder. A conventional angiogram with three dimensions is needed to confirm the exact extent of sharing of the arterial / venous tree. 3D angiography was first proposed by CORNELIUS and advanced into clinical practice by VOIGT in 1975. We present a case of craniopagus vertical type II twins, evaluated for cerebral circulation.

The diagnostic value of venous digital subtraction angiography (VDSA) was evaluated in 168 consecutive patients with suspected or known atherosclerotic lesions of the internal carotid artery. The VDSA findings were correlated with that of arterial angiography (AA) in 50 patients, yielding a sensitivity of 84%, a specificity of 93% and an accuracy of 89%. Correlation of the results of Doppler with that of AA and VDSA provided support for the reliability of VDSA. Clinical data relevant to the selection of angiographic technique was collected, comparing patients who underwent only VDSA, only AA a

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (SDAVFs) are underrecognized, and delayed diagnosis can result in irreversible neurological deficits. Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) provides noninvasive, high-resolution vascular imaging of SDAVFs. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is the diagnostic gold standard; however, it is invasive and may yield nondiagnostic results. This is the first study to systematically compare the diagnostic accuracy of DSA and MRA using surgically confirmed SDAVFs as the reference standard. Following PROSPERO registration (CRD42023474375), PubMed, Embase, and Web of

Intracranial atherosclerotic disease is increasingly recognized as a major stroke subtype worldwide. Current diagnostic evaluation of atherosclerotic disease of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) relies on detection of stenoses with luminographic imaging studies that do not directly visualize plaque unlike high-resolution MRI. This retrospective study seeks to evaluate the accuracy of high-resolution MRI vessel wall imaging, computed tomographic angiography (CTA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in measuring the degree of stenosis within the MCA. 28 recently symptomatic patients with MC

We aimed to prospectively evaluate the effectiveness of unenhanced, three-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (3D-TOF-MRA) with volume rendering (VR) at 3.0 Tesla in the detection of infundibula (IF). A total of 136 consecutive patients with suspected or known aneurysms detected by MRA were examined using DSA, and IF were identified. A 3D specialist adjusted window width to the appropriate threshold, took level and MR source images and performed MRA post-processing techniques, including VR and the single artery highlighting method. VR-DSA was obtained from the rotational

BACKGROUND: Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a vital treatment modality for various gynecological conditions. However, complications may arise from the accidental migration of embolic agents into non-target tissues through the uterine artery-ovarian artery anastomosis (UOA). The key to addressing this issue lies in the timely detection of UOA, which is a challenging task.
PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence model to detect UOA during these procedures.
METHODS: 990 uterine artery angiography sequences from 610 female patients who underwent UAE were retrospectiv
