INTRODUCTION: Type 2 targeting biologics have reached the market first for asthma and since 2019 also for CRSwNP. As clear guidelines and predictors for optimal biological choice are missing, patients are sometimes required to switch biologic therapy in order to find the optimal treatment result. In this paper, we evaluate reasons for switching biologics and the treatment effects after each sequential switch.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety-four patients who switched from one biologic to another for their treatment of CRSwNP and asthma were evaluated.
RESULTS: Twenty patients experienced satis

Biological control using beneficial bacteria is a promising strategy for managing pea Ascochyta blight (AB), yet the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study, we identified 10 bacterial strains from 4 genera, including Bacillus, Paenibacillus, Peribacillus, and Pseudomonas, that significantly reduced the severity of AB caused by Didymella pinodes under greenhouse conditions. Most strains inhibited D. pinodes in cultures, indicating a production of antimicrobial metabolite(s) by these bacteria. To identify the antimicrobial compounds responsible for inhibition of D. pinodes

This study reports, for the first time, the nematicidal potential of the cell-free culture filtrate of Planococcus plakortidis against the citrus nematode Tylenchulus semipenetrans. In vitro bioassays revealed a strong nematicidal activity, reaching 83.06% mortality after five days of incubation. The highest nematicidal effect coincided with the maximum bacterial population density (5.6 × 106 cells ml-1), suggesting a close association between the exponential growth phase of the bacterium and the production of bioactive metabolites. Under greenhouse conditions, application of the culture filtr

Chickpea is an important nutritive food crop both for humans and animals. Chickpea wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceris (Foc) results in huge yield losses every year. Chickpea being a food crop requires the development of an eco-friendly bio-pesticide to effectively control the chickpea wilt disease. In this study, more than 50 bacterial stains isolated from the rhizosphere of healthy plants growing in wilt sick soil were examined for their Foc antagonist activities. Out of these, 17 strains showing > 90% growth inhibition of Foc were then characterized for their plant growth-promot

Infestation of fruits by native and invasive fruit flies causes significant economic losses. In most cases, incidence of 'regulated' dangerous fruit flies in orchards results in restrictions on export of fruits from such places to international markets. Unfortunately, use of insecticides applied on foliage and fruits does not kill the fruit-to-soil stages of fruit flies. However, diverse biological control agents (BCAs) do so. Thus, prevalence of native and invasive fruit flies in orchards will require that a combination of BCAs is included in integrated pest management (IPM) programmes. In th

Mayaro, Oropouche, and O'Nyong-Nyong share many traits with more prominent arboviruses, like dengue and yellow fever, chikungunya, and Zika. These include severe clinical symptoms, multiple animal hosts, and widespread vector species living in close proximity to human habitats, all of which constitute significant risk factors for more frequent outbreaks in the future, greatly increasing the potential of these hidden enemies to follow Zika and become the next wave of global arboviral threats. Critically, the current dearth of knowledge on these arboviruses might impede the success of future con

Multiple drug-resistant bacterial infections have led to an increasing need for an effective disease outbreak response system, such as the One Health platform. While interactions among humans, animals, and ecosystems are crucial and inevitable for survival, the intercommunity transfer of drug resistance genes and the resulting diseases are matters of concern. The concept of bacterial predation and its application in different fields have attracted interest as a natural alternative to traditional antibiotics. Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus, an obligate bacterial predator, preys on a wide range of o

Storage pests and the food spoilage they cause are problems of great concern. Using essential oil obtained from different plants as an insecticide against these storage pests can be considered an environmentally friendly pest management option. Lantana camara Linn. (family Verbenaceae) is a flowering species, and is also a noxious weed that can proliferate well in nearly all geographical habitats. A biopesticide derived from the essential oil extracted from this plant can offer an effective solution for controlling storage pests. The goal of this study is to extract and analyse the chemical co

Banana anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum fructicola, significantly reduced the postharvest fruit quality. Employing biocontrol strategies offers a sustainable approach to enhance agricultural practices. The Burkholderia sp. strain BX1 hinders the growth and appressorium formation of C. fructicola, and its sterile filtrate lowers the anthracnose incidence while preserving the fruit quality. Scanning electron microscopy and genomic analyses confirmed BX1 as Burkholderia pyrrocinia. AntiSMASH analysis identified three siderophores with high similarity, and improved MALDI-TOF IMS confirmed the

Due to its nutritional characteristics, dried fruit and in particular pistachio is considered an important component in the daily diet. Unfortunately, pistachio nuts can be contaminated during storage with a wide range of pathogenic fungi, including Aspergillus flavus. The present work has evaluated how the use of two yeast strains belonging to the species Wickerhamomyces anomalus and Metschnikowia pulcherrima can inhibit the in vitro and in vivo growth of A. flavus. Both yeast strains demonstrated a good in vitro antifungal activity attributable to a specific mechanism of action, although hig

Potato common scab caused by Streptomyces scabies is one of the most economically important diseases infecting potato. It reduces the quality of potato tubers, which subsequently decreases the tuber prices and causes significant economic losses for potato growers. Biological control using bacteriophages is a promising strategy for controlling this disease. In this study, a novel bacteriophage with high lytic efficacy against S. scabies was isolated from a potato field at El-Minya, Egypt, and was designated SscP1EGY. The phage has an icosahedral head of 55 nm and a short tail of 7.5 nm, typical

Aging and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are increasingly recognized as interconnected biological processes that share core pathogenic mechanisms, including cellular senescence, mitochondrial dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation, impaired autophagy, stem cell exhaustion, dysregulated nutrient sensing, and gut microbiota imbalance. Chronic hyperglycemia and insulin resistance accelerate tissue degeneration across multiple organ systems, thereby establishing T2D as a clinically relevant model of accelerated biological aging. In this context, anti-diabetic medications have attracted growing interes

Owing to their peculiar oxidative effect, silver cations (Ag+) are well known for their antimicrobial properties and explored as therapeutic agents for biomedical applications. Size control with improved dispersion and stability are the key factors of Ag NPs (silver nanoparticles) to be used in biomedical applications. Silver based nano-materials are highly efficient due to their biological, chemical and physical properties in comparison with bulk silver. Atomic scale fabrication is achieved by rearranging the internal components of a material, in turn, influencing the mechanical, electrical,
