This study characterizes changes in peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets among pediatric hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) patients. The study of differentiation antigens of circulating mononuclear cells in 70 patients with primary immunodeficiency (PID) using monoclonal antibodies allowed us to define phenotypic profiles that are characteristic of the different described syndromes. We studied the cytokine profiles and cellular compositions in the lesions of borderline lepromatous (BL) and borderline tuberculoid (BT) leprosy patients in order to ascertain the immunological distinctions between these two groups. We describe 2 patients with rapidly progressing systemic sclerosis that did not respond to conventional therapy, who were treated with a 5-day regimen of T cell-specific antilymphocyte globulin. One patient had deteriorating pulmonary involvement, and the second patient had developed disabling skin disease with multiple ulcers and gangrene.
