Hydroxylamine (HA), hydroxylamine chloride (HAC1), and hydroxylamine nitrate (HAN) were each mixed with aqueous solutions of Cr3+, Cr6+, Mn7+, Co2+, Co3+, and Cu2+, and their heat flow profiles were monitored by a small-scaled reaction calorimeter, SuperCRC. A rapid alternative method is presented for the determination of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (pyridoxal-P). The method involves the colorimetric analysis of thiocyanate liberated from S-cyanohomocysteine (Hcy (CN)) in the presence of cyanide when catalyzed by the pyridoxal-P dependent enzyme, gamma-cyano-alpha-aminobutyric acid (gamma-CNabu)-synthase (Hcy (CN) thiocyano-lyase [adding CN]). The rate of formation of thiocyanate is determined by the increase in absorbance at 470 nm on treatment of the enzymatic reaction mixture with FeCl3.

A series of 4-[N-(substituted 4-pyrimidinyl)amino]benzenesulfonamides were designed and synthesised. Their binding potencies as inhibitors of selected recombinant human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) isozymes I, II, VII, and XIII were measured using isothermal titration calorimetry and the thermal shift assay. To determine the structural features of inhibitor binding, the crystal structures of several compounds in complex with hCA II were determined. Several compounds exhibited selectivity towards isozymes I, II, and XIII, and some were potent inhibitors of hCA VII.
