SUMMARY: The facial skeleton is foundational for facial aesthetics. The authors describe an alternative technique for cosmetic chin augmentation that does not require alloplastic implants, osseous genioplasty, or autologous bone harvesting. In this new and innovative technique for chin augmentation, tissue bank allograft cancellous bone chips serve as a scaffold for bony ingrowth. INTRODUCTION: Numb chin syndrome (NCS) or mental neuropathy (MN) is a disorder characterized by sensory neuropathy on the distribution of the inferior alveolar nerve or mental nerve. The most frequent causes are of odontogenic origin (infections, wrong therapies). Other etiologies are related to primary tumor, metastasis, osteoradionecrosis and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical effects of bone graft from the mandible in repairing orbital floor defects.
METHODS: Bone grafts from the mandible were used to treat 11 cases of orbital floor defects and followed up for 6-12 months.
RESULTS: The surgical incisions healed primarily in all 11 patients. The orbital floor structure was restored. No vision loss, limited eye movement, implant infection, or resorption were observed postoperatively, and no complications occurred in the supply area.
CONCLUSIONS: Bone grafts from the mandible were an ideal material to repair orbital floor defects

Numb chin syndrome (NCS) describes the affection of the inferior alveolar nerve and is a purely sensory neuropathy. Its symptoms include numbness of the skin of the chin, the lip and the gingival mucosa. Mostly seen in adults, it has rarely been described in children. We report on an 11-year-old male who presented with NCS as initial manifestation of acute lymphoblastic leukemia of B-cell type.

The mylo-hyoid nerve, a branch of the inferior alveolar nerve, gives rise to many motor and sensory branches. Motor branches innervate the anterior belly of the digastric muscle. Sensitive branches innervate the submandibular gland and also the skin just under the bony chin. Valentin's nerve, the terminal cutaneous branch of the myo-hyoid nerve (described by Valentin in 1843), can be damaged by horizontal mentoplasty (sliding-mentoplasty). Sensory disorders (hypoesthesia, anesthesia) can occur in case of Valentin's nerve injury without lesions to the mental nerve.

Mental neuropathy is a paraneoplastic syndrome characterized by hypoesthesia or anesthesia in the area of mental nerve inervation. Its ethyology is not well known, and in some cases would be secondary to metastasis in the mandible, meningeal carcinomatosis or infiltration of the ganglion of Gasser. We report five new cases; three of them we have studied the presence of circulating antibodies against nervous tissue of ganglion of Gasser, and it was negative in all of them. Likewise we have reviewed the literature.
