[Second tumors in childhood].

More aggressiveness in treatment of childhood malignancies has had an evident impact on survival and rate of cure but, it has also allowed u … r astrocytoma-soft tissue osteogenic sarcoma; five years old girl. Wilm's tumor-scapular osteogenic chondroma; one year and a half old girl, abdominal neuroblastoma-granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma); twelve years old boy. Hodgkin's disease-acute myeloblastic leukemia. All of them were clearly related to concogenic effect of radiation or chemotherapy.

Solitary Chondrosarcoma of the Right Ring Finger: A Case Report.

We present a case of solitary chondrosarcoma arising from the proximal phalanx of the ring finger in an elderly man. The chondrosarcoma deve … he chondrosarcoma. Most osteochondral tumors arising from the phalanges are benign tumors such as enchondromas, but primary chondrogenic malignant bone tumors (chondrosarcomas) occasionally occur. Chondrosarcoma of the phalanx is difficult to distinguish from enchondroma of the phalanx, because histological investigations of the two neoplasms often produce …

A Rare Diagnosis in the Neck During Childhood: Congenital Chondrolipoma.

Chondrolipomas are mesenchymal tumors that found as mature cartilage tissue in a fat tissue. A 2-year-old boy was seen with a complaint of a mass of the neck. On physical examination of the child, there was a one-centimeter mass above the sternocleidomastoid muscle on the lateral neck. Pathological examination of this mass after excision was reported as chondrolipoma. Chondrolipomas are seen mostly in the breast and in the adult. They are rare tumors of the head and neck area and seen mostly the in oral cavity here. This is the first case of chondrolipoma with this age and localization combina

Cartilage-forming tumors.

Cartilage-forming tumors as a group are the most common primary bone tumors; this is largely due to the common occurrence of asymptomatic benign lesions such as osteochondroma and enchondroma. The common feature of these tumors is the presence of chondrocytic cells and the formation of cartilaginous tumor matrix. Some of these tumors are true neoplasms while others are hamartomas or developmental abnormalities. The morphologic heterogeneity of these tumors may be explained by a common multipotent mesenchymal cell differentiating along the lines of fetal-adult cartilage maturation. Recently mut…

Ossifying chondrolipoma of the tongue.

INTRODUCTION: Chondrolipomas and osteolipomas are uncommon variants of lipomatous tumors. CASE REPORT: We presented a 60-year-old woman with ossifying chondrolipoma of the tongue. Clinical examination revealed a firm nodular mass, located in the midline of the posterior region on the dorsal surface of the tongue. Histologically, the lesion was well-delimited showing areas of mature adipocytes arranged in lobules and separated by fibrous connective tissue septa, islands of mature cartilaginous tissue and osseous metaplasia. Trabeculae of lamellar bone within a fibro-fatty background were visib

[Scaphoid enchondroma revealed by a fracture].

Enchondroma is a common bone tumor of hand. It is rarely localized in scaphoid. We report a new case of this tumor revealed by fracture. The diagnosis was suggested by standard radiography and confirmed then by anatomic pathology examination. Enucleation and bone graft with osteosynthesis yielded good result.

Post-traumatic osteochondroma.

Osteochondromas can arise as primary, spontaneous tumors of bone or in previously irradiated bone. We report a patient who developed an osteochondroma of bone which arose secondary to previous trauma. This has not previously been reported.

A Unique Case of Infected Laryngeal Tophi With Underlying Gout.

Gout is a disorder of purine metabolism described by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals with rare involvement in the head and neck. This is the first laryngeal gout case reported in Sabah, Malaysia. A 50-year-old gentleman with a long history of gouty arthritis presented with acute painless anterior neck swelling for two weeks. An ultrasound of the neck was done, which showed a midline neck mass with intralesional calcification of the cartilaginous component with suspicious erosion of the thyroid cartilage, which was suggestive of thyroid chondroma. However, a computed tomography (CT)…

Synovial chondromatosis extending to the ear canal: An unusual cause of conductive hearing loss.

INTRODUCTION: Synovial chondromatosis (SC) is a rare benign disorder characterized by synovial metaplasia leading to the formation of osteocartilaginous nodules within the joint. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement is uncommon and typically presents non-specific symptoms. Hearing loss associated with TMJ SC is exceptionally rare. OBSERVATION: We report the case of a 70-year-old woman presenting with progressive right-sided conductive hearing loss. Clinical evaluation revealed a painless preauricular swelling associated with external auditory canal stenosis. Audiometric testing confirmed…

[Serious jaw osteolytic lesions].

Among oral and maxillofacial diseases, the maxillary osteolytic lesions constitute a rich and investigated field to define the more appropriate diagnosis and treatment. In the maxillary region, the same tumors of the other bones (osteogenic sarcoma, chondroma, etc.) cause found together with tumors and dysembryoplasias connected with the teeth development (ameloblastoma, odontoma, odontogenic myxoma, etc.). Moreover in the medullary spaces of the bones, there are reticular and hematopoietic cells that are connected with different diseases (leucemia, myeloma, lymphoma, etc.). What's more, due t…

[Chondromatous tumors in MRT: clinical picture in relation to localization and histopathology].

19 patients with histologically verified cartilaginous tumours (chondromas, chondrosarcomas) were examined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in order to assess differences regarding the MR appearance of these tumours which would provide information on the biological behaviour of these lesions. MR findings were then correlated with histopathology. With regard to the signal behaviour of cartilaginous tumours a good correlation with histopathology could be established insofar as the relatively hypocellular tumours composed of hyaline cartilage exhibited a high signal level on T2-weighted imag…

Distribution of epithelial membrane antigen in benign and malignant lesions of the salivary glands.

An antiserum against epithelial membrane antigen has been used to stain a variety of lesions arising in the salivary glands. In normal major … e negative. All mesenchymally derived tumours were negative and a tumour previously considered as a chondroma was strongly positive. The results are discussed in relation to phenotypic heterogeneity and the histogenesis of salivary gland tumours.

Transsphenoidal neurosurgery of intracranial neoplasm.

Because of the benign, rapid, and nontraumatizing nature of the extracranial transsphenoidal approach to the base of the skull, this procedure is indicated as the method of choice in nearly all cases of surgery for pituitary fossa and parasellar region access. Some of the largest pituitary chromophobe adenomas with voluminous suprasellar expansion have been successfully excised from below, as well as some calcified tumors, craniopharyngiomas, Rathke's pouch cysts, chordomas, chondromas, and meningiomas. At the other extreme, the smallest intrapituitary microadenomas (as little as 3 mm in diame…
