Circumcision is one of the most common procedures performed worldwide. Bleeding is one of the most common complications following male circumcision, and to decrease the risk of bleeding, electrosurgery may be utilized. However, the use of diathermy on the penis is controversial, and there are reported complications due to the use of electrosurgery for circumcision. Circumcision is a common elective surgical procedure performed worldwide. The Plastibell ring is a plastic device placed between the penis and the foreskin to circumcise a newborn male. This device is used routinely in neonatal circumcision, but complications such as bleeding, infection, and retention may occur. This case report describes the retention of a Plastibell device in a 21-day-old male and an innovative method to remove the device using a ring cutter. Emergency physicians should be aware of ring retention as a complication of the Plastibell ring and the proposed removal technique.

METHODS: Male university students (aged 18-20 years) were recruited from 2003 to 2009 and followed up triannually. Shaft/scrotum, glans, and urine samples were tested for 37 α human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes.
