Incidence of Arterial Hypertension in People With Periodontitis and Characterization of the Oral and Subgingival Microbiome: A Study Protocol.

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. High blood pressure in particular, continues to increase throughout the global population at an increasingly fast pace. The relationship between arterial hypertension and periodontitis has been recently discussed in the context of its origins and implications. Particularly relevant is the role of the periodontal microbiome linked to persistent local and systemic inflammation, along with other risk factors and social determinants of health. The present protocol will investigate/assess the association between per

Periodontal-systemic disease education in U.S. and Canadian dental schools.

Research has proliferated in recent years regarding the relationship of oral disease to systemic conditions. Specifically, periodontal disease has been studied as a potential risk factor for multiple conditions such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and adverse pregnancy outcomes, while other research focuses on exposures or behaviors associated with oral disease. However, few articles have been published reporting how this information is integrated into schools of dentistry, both in the classroom and clinical curriculum. For our study, a thirty-three-item survey and cover letter were electronic

Prevalence of Endo-Periodontal Lesions in a Teaching Hospital of the University of Buenos Aires: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background/Objectives: In 2018, a classification system for periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions defined an endo-periodontal lesion (EPL) as a pathological communication between the endodontic and periodontal tissues of a given tooth. As the evidence to define the etiology, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment was considered limited, a cross-sectional study was carried out to evaluate its prevalence in a population treated at the Periodontics Department of Faculty of Dentistry of University of Buenos Aires (FOUBA). The primary objective was to evaluate the prevalence of EPL. The

A Tele-detection and referral pAthways model for early childhood cariEs control- a protocol for a randomized factorial study: the TRACE study.

BACKGROUND: Early childhood caries (ECC) is one of the most common childhood diseases affecting the primary teeth of children younger than 6 years of age. ECC progression can be reversed in the early stages although these lesions often go undetected. New approaches are needed to detect oral diseases at an early stage when they can be better controlled. The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of ECC tele-detection methods combined with referral pathways with and without user fee removal in controlling ECC. METHODS: A randomized factorial trial will be used to compare two tele-denti

Prevention and detection of oral cancer: the views of primary care dentists in Northern Ireland.

Our objective was to describe the management of oral cancer and pre-cancer as stated by primary care dentists and their views on screening. We conducted a survey of all general dental practitioners and community dentists in Northern Ireland (n = 635), to which 428 replied (response rate: 67%). 94% stated that examination of the oral soft tissues constituted part of their usual practice during the regular dental check-up. Suspicious lesions were generally referred early, 68.5% of dentists referring white lesions within one month of presentation. The corresponding figures for red lesions, lumps

The dentist and preventive dental health information.

Patients receive differing amounts of preventive dental health information from their dentist. What factors affect the amount of preventive information a patient receives? Many possible reasons which have been advanced for this difference are discussed in this paper. Using the clues presented in the literature, and results of a presurvey, some factors thought to influence the amount of preventive dental health information the patient receives were investigated. Specifically, the research problem was, "What is the relationship between the amount of preventive dental health information a patient

Comparative assessment of quality, consistency, and reference accuracy of MIH-related clinical information generated by ChatGPT-4o and DeepSeek R1.

BACKGROUND: Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a clinically challenging developmental enamel defect that requires accurate diagnosis and nuanced management decisions. Although large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used as sources of clinical information in dentistry, the quality, consistency, and reference accuracy of their MIH-related explanations remain largely unexplored. To date, no study has systematically compared the clinical quality or citation accuracy of LLM-generated MIH information. This study comparatively evaluated how two widely used LLMs generate clinical informa
