How Graduate Programs Develop and Sustain Practicum Sites for Behavioral Health Trainees: A Mixed Methods Study.

Practicum education is a foundational component of master's-level training across social work, counseling, and marriage and family therapy programs. However, expanding and sustaining practicum placements with community partners remains difficult due to rising service demands, high caseloads, and systemic workforce challenges. This explanatory sequential mixed methods study examined practicum site development and supervision supports among a cross-disciplinary sample of accredited U.S. master's-level behavioral health training programs. A cross-sectional survey collected data from 68 practicum

Novel Electronic Health Record-Based Data Commons for Pancreatic Cancer.

PURPOSE: Clinical research in pancreatic cancer (PC) has been limited because of a lack of granular data in national data sets. An electronic health record (EHR)-based data set specifically designed for PC has immense potential to advance research. This study describes the creation of an EHR-based data commons for patients with PC. METHODS: We generated an index cohort of adult patients at our institution diagnosed with PC (International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, codes C25.0-25.9) between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2023. To develop the Pancreatic Cancer Data Commons (PCD

A Christian Faith-Based Facebook Intervention for Smoking Cessation in Rural Communities (FAITH-CORE): Protocol for a Community Participatory Development Study.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco smoking remains the leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality in the United States, with significant rural-urban disparities. Adults who live in rural areas of the United States have among the highest tobacco smoking rates in the nation and experience a higher prevalence of smoking-related deaths and deaths due to chronic diseases for which smoking is a causal risk factor. Barriers to accessing tobacco use cessation treatments are a major contributing factor to these disparities. Adults living in rural areas experience difficulty accessing tobacco cessation servi

Addressing adolescent immunization disparities: a retrospective analysis of school-based health center immunization delivery.

OBJECTIVES: We compared completion rates for adolescent immunization series administered at school-based health centers (SBHCs) to completion rates for series administered at community health centers (CHCs) within a single integrated delivery system. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of data from an immunization registry for patients aged 12-18 years. Patients were assigned to either an SBHC or a CHC during the study interval based on utilization. We used bivariate analysis to compare immunization series completion rates between the 2 groups and multivariate analysis to compare r

Headache care around the world: a review of access, equity, and system-level solutions.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Headache disorders are the leading cause of neurological disability globally, yet their management remains marked by profound inequities in access to diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, specialist care, and policy prioritization. This review examines current regional disparities in headache care delivery and highlights emerging system-level approaches aimed at reducing the global treatment gap. RECENT FINDINGS: High-income regions in Western and Northern Europe, East Asia, and North America have developed advanced care models but continue to face inequities related to soci

Developing an Evidence-Based and Patient-Centred Care Concept to Address Deficits in German Primary Care of Venous Leg Ulcers: Results of an Expert Survey Within the ULCUS CRURIS CARE Project.

Venous leg ulcers (VLU) account for the majority of chronic wounds, with an estimated rise in prevalence due to demographic change. Care often does not comply with evidence, and patients remain passive and uninformed. To support general practice VLU care, the 'UlcusCrurisCare' (UCC) project developed a multimodal intervention comprising provider training, software-supported case management and standardised patient education. Experts from the medical community (physicians, nurses, association of medical assistants), health insurance and patient representatives provided their assessment of barri

Functional vulnerability and all-cause mortality among community-dwelling United States adults with a history of hepatitis or chronic liver disease.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Frailty predicts death in advanced cirrhosis and among transplant candidates, but whether a frailty-like functional index identifies mortality risk in the far larger population of community-dwelling adults with liver disease, who are rarely assessed for it, is unsettled. We examined whether a survey-based functional vulnerability index (FVI) was associated with all-cause mortality among US adults reporting a history of hepatitis or a chronic liver condition, independent of poverty and insurance status. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study using the National Health Intervie

Integrative Oncology à La Française. Evolution and Distinctive Features.

Integrative Oncology (IO) in France aligns with the definition proposed by the Society for Integrative Oncology, combining conventional cancer treatments with evidence-based complementary therapies within an interdisciplinary, patient-centered framework. Unlike alternative approaches, integrative therapies are used alongside standard oncological care. In France, a wide range of complementary therapies are implemented, with some-such as homeopathy and acupuncture-more widely integrated, reflecting historical use and favorable safety profiles.Over the past decade, IO has developed through divers

Community-Based Participatory Research: a Family Health History-Based Colorectal Cancer Prevention Program Among Chinese Americans.

Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial/ethnic group in the USA, as this population increased by 72% between 2000 and 2015. Chinese Americans are the largest Asian subgroup, with a high immigrant proportion (63%), a high poverty rate (14%), and a large percentage of low English competency (41%). Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer and cause of cancer death among Chinese Americans. As CRC has a genetic predisposition, family health history (FHH) has been proposed as a preventive tool to stratify CRC risk and guide personalized screening and behavioral mod

Advancing equitable breast cancer screening: the role of patient-centered education, community outreach, and accessible care pathways.

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women in the United States. Although observational and randomized trial data have shown that screening mammography reduces mortality by up to 49% with consistent participation, adherence remains uneven, with persistent disparities driven by socioeconomic factors, insurance status, race and ethnicity, medical mistrust, and health literacy gaps. This narrative review examines inequities in access to breast cancer screening and synthesizes evidence on the impact of patient-centered educational interventions on screening uptak

Lessons learned about appendiceal neuroendocrine neoplasms from data analysis of the Belgian Cancer Registry 2010-2015.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Appendiceal neuroendocrine neo-plasms (aNENs) are a diverse group of malignant neoplasms of varying biological behavior for which information about manage-ment and outcome is sparse, with the majority of available studies being retrospective, including only a limited number of patients, and therefore not necessarily reflecting the reality in the community. In the present study clinical, epidemiological and pathological data of appendiceal neuroendocrine neoplasms in Belgium is provided and compared with current literature. METHODS: A population-based study was condu

Comprehensive capture of cutaneous melanoma by the Ontario Cancer Registry: validation study using community pathology reports.

Melanoma is often managed outside hospital settings, creating the potential for underreporting to cancer registries. To our knowledge, completeness of melanoma capture in cancer registries has not been assessed using external data sources since the 1980s. We evaluated the melanoma capture rate from 1993 to 2009 in a provincial cancer registry. We identified all melanoma diagnoses in pathology reports from a major community laboratory in Ontario, Canada. Pathologically confirmed diagnoses were linked to Ontario Cancer Registry (OCR) records using health insurance numbers. We calculated capture

Fragmented prevention in rural South Africa: a qualitative study of Biokineticists' perspectives on health system barriers to early detection of non-communicable diseases.

BACKGROUND: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) disproportionately affect rural South Africans due to limited healthcare access and delayed diagnoses. Biokineticists, experts in clinical exercise therapy, can aid in the early detection and prevention of NCDs, but their integration into primary healthcare remains limited. OBJECTIVE: To explore Biokineticists' perspectives on their role in early NCD detection and prevention in rural South Africa, along with health-system factors affecting their integration into public primary healthcare. METHODS: An interpretivist qualitative study using semi-str

Health Care Access and Use Among U.S. Children Exposed to Neighborhood Violence.

INTRODUCTION: Neighborhood violence is an adverse childhood experience which impacts millions of U.S. children and is associated with poor health outcomes across the life course. These effects may be mitigated by access to care. Yet, the ways in which exposure to neighborhood violence shapes children's health care access have been understudied. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional analysis of 16,083 children (weighted N=67,214,201) ages 1 to <18 years from the 2019 and 2021 National Health Interview Survey. Guardians were asked about preventive care access, unmet health needs, and health care u
