Serum from both normal and T cell-deprived female adult CBA mice shows a background titre of antibody to Corynebacterium parvum of about 2–4 log2 units by a latex agglutination test. Intraperitoneal injection of C. parvum causes a marked rise in titre which reaches its peak after about a month, and a second injection at that time evokes a further response. Important uncertainties remain regarding the role of coinfection, asymptomatic carriage, and the contribution of toxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae to clinical disease. This Letter to the Editor highlights several key unanswered questions and emphasises the need for a better understanding of this re-emerging infection to inform diagnosis, microbiological testing, clinical management, and public health responses.

We describe the first reported case of Corynebacterium striatum (C. striatum) relapsing bacteraemia in a patient with peripheral arterial disease and proven Corynebacterium species colonization of a chronic foot ulcer, focusing on the difficulties in the management of the patient. We conclude that the optimal duration of the antibiotic treatment for relapsing C. striatum bacteraemia from a chronic ulcer should be 6 weeks together with surgical treatment.
