Molariform mesiodens in primary dentition: a case report.

A supernumerary tooth is a developmental anomaly and it has been argued to arise from multiple aetiologies. Mesiodens is a midline supernumerary tooth which is commonly seen in the maxillary arch, and incidence of molariform mesiodens in the maxillary midline is rare in permanent dentition and extremely uncommon in primary dentition. A midline supernumerary tooth in the primary dentition can cause an ectopic or a delayed eruption of permanent central incisors, which will further alter occlusion and may compromise aesthetics and formation of dentigerous cysts. This paper reports a rare case whi

Single maxillary central incisors in the midline.

A single maxillary central incisor in both the primary and the permanent dentition is a rare phenomenon. Attempts to explain the etiology of this condition included "fusion across the midline", "conation" and "double tooth". Three cases are presented with morphologically normal single incisors in the permanent dentition, and evidence of single central incisors in the primary dentition. Agenesis seems to be the preferred etiologic explanation.

Supernumerary teeth in primary dentition and early intervention: a series of case reports.

Supernumerary teeth are considered as one of the most significant dental anomalies during the primary and early mixed dentition stages. They are of great concern to the dentists and parents because of the eruption, occlusal, and esthetic problems they can cause. Supernumerary teeth occur more frequently in the permanent dentition but rarely in primary dentition. Mesiodens is the most common type of supernumerary teeth but rarely seen in lower arch. Early recognition and diagnosis of supernumerary teeth is important to prevent further complications in permanent dentition. Four cases of supernum

Congenitally missing primary mandibular lateral incisors: a case of rare occurrence.

We are reporting a rare case of missing teeth in primary dentition. The case reported with the chief complaint of missing teeth in the lower front tooth region. The concern of the parents was missing primary teeth but they were also worried about the permanent successors. Thorough evaluation of the primary dentition visually and permanent dentition radiographically was done. There was missing 72 and 82.Along with these, there were few permanent teeth, that is, lack of initiation of 35 and 45 and 22 was evident. The case was non-syndromic. At present, the case is under follow-up.

Clinical features of non-syndromic late developing supernumerary teeth: a sign of the third dentition?

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to summarize the clinical features of non-syndromic late developing supernumerary teeth (LDST) and comparisons with common supernumerary teeth (ST) and explore the association between LDST and the third dentition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study retrospected cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and medical history of 41,903 consecutive patients from January to December 2021. Comparisons between ST and LDST were evaluated by Chi-square test or Fisher exact test. Correlation between chronological age and dental stage age was evaluated by Spearman's rank correlatio

Efficacy of different cavity liners compared to no cavity lining in managing deep caries in vital permanent teeth - a systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: This review aimed to evaluate whether the use of a certain cavity lining material (I) in patients with deep caries lesions in mature or immature permanent teeth associated with no symptoms or reversible pulpitis (P) is as efficacious as other materials or no cavity lining (C) in terms of patient-reported and clinically-reported outcomes (O), with "failure" identified as the primary critical outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two independent reviewers selected studies, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias. The systematic literature search was restricted to English-language pub

Distinctions and associations between the microbiota of saliva and supragingival plaque of permanent and deciduous teeth.

BACKGROUND: Using salivary microbiota as an accurate proxy for monitoring supragingival microbiota remains controversial because their relationship remains unclear. The eruption of permanent teeth and the exfoliation of primary teeth in mixed dentition greatly alter microbial habitats, which may cause compositional shifts of oral microbiota from childhood to adults. OBJECTIVE: This study's purpose was to assess whether saliva represents a suitable sample for monitoring supragingival microbiota in healthy people, and to explore how the replacement process of deciduous teeth with permanent teet

Early diagnosis of bilateral supplemental primary and permanent maxillary lateral incisors: a case report.

Supernumerary teeth occur frequently in permanent dentition, but they are rarely found in primary dentition. Supernumerary teeth of orthodox shape and size that resemble normal dentition are called 'supplemental teeth'. Supplemental teeth are less common than supernumerary teeth and are often overlooked because of their normal shape and size.Supplemental teeth may cause esthetic problems, delayed eruption and crowding, and they require early diagnosis and treatment to prevent complications. The case reported here is one of bilateral supplemental teeth impeding the eruption of permanent maxilla

Case report of lateral crossbite. Part I. Mixed dentition.

Lateral crossbite on mixed dentition does not always cause facial asymmetry or functionally abnormal movement of the mandible in children. However, it is often observed that facial asymmetry will worsen during growth in the absence of orthodontic treatment. In adult cases, lateral crossbite is one of the etiological factors of temporomandibular joint disorder. This case report presents two cases of lateral crossbite of mixed dentition. The terms of treatment were shorter than those in cases with permanent dentition. Also, methods of treatment were simpler, and the patients developed favorably.

Unstimulated salivary flow, pH, proteins and oral health in patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.

BACKGROUND: There have been inconsistent conclusions regarding salivary abnormalities and their effect on oral health of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) patients. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the flow rate and selected biochemical parameters of unstimulated whole saliva in correlation to oral health in JIA children. METHODS: Thirty-four JIA patients and 34 age- and sex-matched controls not affected by JIA (C) were divided into two groups: with mixed and permanent dentition. DMFT/dmft, gingival and simplified oral hygiene indices were evaluated. Salivary flow rate, pH, lysozyme

Guiding unerupted teeth into occlusion: case report.

Delayed eruption of a permanent tooth may be a significant concern for children in the mixed dentition stage and their parents. This report describes the orthodontic management of a case in which an unerupted tooth was guided into occlusion during the mixed dentition stage, rather than waiting until the permanent dentition stage to perform comprehensive treatment. The article includes a description of the treatment mechanics for this process, which can be readily accomplished by general dentists.

A retrospective radiographic study of alveolar bone loss in the primary dentition in patients with localized juvenile periodontitis.

Lately, it has been questioned whether localized juvenile periodontitis (LJP) is restricted to the permanent dentition, or if it sometimes might have a prepubertal onset, involving the primary dentition. To clarify this question, 17 patients with LJP, together with 17 non-LJP matched controls, were retrospectively examined for radiographic signs of alveolar bone destruction in their primary dentitions. All LJP subjects but one showed localized marginal bone loss, whereas no bone loss was observed among the controls. The results suggest that at least some cases of LJP start in the primary denti

Mesiodens in the primary dentition--a case report.

Supernumerary teeth are among the most significant dental anomalies affecting the primary and the permanent dentitions. Mesiodens is a supernumerary tooth with a cone shaped crown and a short root. Though it occurs frequently in the permanent dentition, it is extremely rare in the primary dentition. The exact etiology is still obscure and not well understood. Supernumerary teeth occur as isolated dental findings or as part of a syndrome. The frequency with which supernumerary teeth occur and the effects they have on development of normal occlusion justify the radiographic examination of presch
