OBJECTIVE: To determine infant diaper dermatitis (DD) at pediatrics health center; its relation to socio-demographic factors and infant care.
METHODS: The study included 113 infants aged 0-24 mo. Data on infants' age, sex, weight, mothers' education, nutrition, diaper change frequency, cleaning methods and prophylactic cream use were recorded. Infants with minimum one time rash, were accepted to have DD.
RESULTS: Seventy six (67.3 %) infants had DD [32 girls (42.1 %), 44 boys (57 %), mean age: 6.5 mo]. Infants with DD had significantly higher age than those without (p 0.001). DD frequency in

Herein, we describe an unusual presentation of acute graft versus host disease (GVHD) mimicking contact dermatitis in an infant who underwent 5/6 HLA-matched bone marrow transplantation (BMT) from his mother for malignant infantile osteopetrosis. The initial rash on day +32 simulated diaper rash, which progressed to a belt-shaped rash and then developed hyperkeratotic nodules on the hands. Zinc is an essential element and necessary for various cellular functions. Preterm infants may have a negative zinc balance and are therefore especially susceptible for symptomatic zinc deficiency. We report on a preterm child with distinct clinical manifestations of zinc deficiency confirmed by histology and laboratory analysis who quickly healed with oral zinc therapy.

Chronic low-dose exogenous steroid therapy in children can result in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction. However, the development of Cushing syndrome from topical steroid therapy is unusual. A 9-month-old girl with a diagnosis of Cushing syndrome caused by long-term topical clobetasol propionate application was evaluated. The patient was found to have severe adrenal suppression. Limiting the use of steroid-containing drugs, prescription of less potent agents, especially during infancy, and warning of parents about potential side effects are very important.

Most cases can be cleared with frequent diaper changes, use of superabsorbent disposable diapers (which contain gelling material in their core), and a low-potency topical corticosteroid. Cytomegalovirus inclusions have been reported in perineal ulcers from immunosuppressed adults. The importance of this finding is unknown. We report the first pediatric case of cutaneous cytomegalovirus infection in an infant with congenital human immunodeficiency virus infection, presenting as a diaper dermatitis. Cytomegalovirus was cultured from the skin biopsy specimen, and characteristic inclusions were seen on hematoxylin-eosin-stained sections. Irritant diaper dermatitis occurs at a higher frequency with cloth diaper use than disposable diapers. We present four cases of vesiculobullous, erosive diaper dermatitis occurring in older infants and toddlers with cloth diaper use that resolved completely after transitioning to disposable diapers. This is the first report of vesicles and bullae as a type of irritant diaper dermatitis.

Irritant diaper dermatitis is a common dermatologic problem among infants and young children. Severe erosive presentations, although uncommon, are diagnostically challenging and can mimic non-accidental trauma (NAT). Diagnosing inflicted injury and NAT where it does not exist can cause parental distress, yet failing to diagnose inflicted injury and NAT can result in re-injury. We describe three cases of severe erosive diaper dermatitis in pediatric patients aged 2-6 years that were initially concerning for inflicted scald burn or neglect.

OBJECTIVE: Quantify the evolution and severity of neonatal skin injury, specifically diaper skin compromise, by embedding a validated skin integrity evaluation into the electronic health record (EHR).
METHODS: Retrospective longitudinal cohort analysis of 747 patients stratified by gestation: 22-27, 28-31, 32-24, and 35-37 weeks, from birth to discharge. Primary outcomes were time to first perineal erythema, duration as percent days with erythema, and severity as maximum score. Data were analyzed using generalized linear models and multiple linear regression methods.
